Inevitably, you will need to write numbers in various forms in your prose when you write fiction. Now, using the actual numbers, or spelling the words out in letters is a matter of preference. The main thing is that you're consistent throughout the manuscript. However, it's wise to adhere to some special basic and accepted rules. It will make your writing easier to follow. numbers should be spelled out when they begin a sentence.

As in the example shown 33 birds fell out of the tree. If we wrote 33 birds in numbers, it looks rather out of place. Compound numbers between 21 99 should be hyphenated. As you can see hyphenate written fractions in this way. When you're writing the time, it's best to use numerals that is write the numbers down. Look at this sentence.

You'll miss the train, it leaves at 6:33am. You'll notice that the A and the M have a.or a period after them. This is also a matter of preference. Some people write a m without the periods. If you like to use the o clock form of writing, like six o'clock, seven o'clock, always spell it out. You should always write mixed fractions like One and a half, three and three quarters and fractions in this form.

Write them in numbers unless they start a sentence. Incidentally, when you're writing percent, always use the long form and not the symbol. spell out large round numbers, like 6 million or 7 million. When you're writing a decimal in a sentence, using numbers, it only rains point six 7% of the time in the Sahara. Notice that we normally say point six, seven and not 0.67. But when writing fiction, it's normal to add the zero to make it easier for the reader to understand when writing out numbers over 999.

Don't use commas. In the example shown, the first sentence has a comma after the thousand, and the second one shows the correct way to write it. You can express dates in either of these two ways. Either we'll do note that in the second case, APR 29, it isn't necessary to write the th after the number. When writing decades, use the digits. It's better to put an apostrophe before the decayed and no apostrophe between the number and the s as shown.

During the 80s coma, Brits were the kings of bunk. Now, you could also write this as a complete decade during the 1980s, Brits were the kings of punk. Now you can see if we added an apostrophe between the zero and the s, and it would look quite bizarre, followed by another comma, he would be too cluttered. So we'll leave out the comma between the zero and the s. If you have two numbers next to each other in a sentence, it's best to spell one out to avoid confusion. You simply choose a number with the fewest letters as we can see in the example shown
