In this video, we're going to speak about three windows that are useful in error handling and debugging, which are the immediate window and the locals window and the watch window. So first of all, let's speak about the immediate window. So the immediate window is a window that allows you to execute a line of code without running a macro. So you can just execute the line of code on the fly. And this is useful in error handling and debugging. And we will see error handling and debugging later on in the course.

So to view the immediate window, you need to go to the View menu here at the top and then click on immediate window or you can also hit the shortcut Ctrl G on your keyboard. Okay, so the immediate window as you can see has appeared here on the bottom, but you can always move it anywhere you want, as we've demonstrated previously, okay, so the immediate window, it allows you to actually executes a line of code just on the fly without needing to run the whole macro. And this is useful if you just want to verify a line of code. So just give you an example here, you can simply type a question mark. And then you can, for example, I'm gonna type a message box, I'm gonna make a message box pop up, just testing the immediate window. Okay, so I've just used the message box function, just close the brackets here.

I'm going to press Enter. And you can see here, a message boxes appeared. I'm just testing the immediate window. Okay, so this is just a demonstration here what the immediate window can do it can just execute the line of code on the fly. And of course, we're going to see how to use message boxes in detail later on in the course. So don't worry about that.

I'm just demonstrating the ability of the immediate window to execute a line of code on the fly. Okay, that's great. So let's go on to the following window which is the locals window you can go to the View menu here at the top and then go to locals window click on locals window here. And as you can see here, a window has appeared on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. But of course, you can move it anywhere you like. So what the locals window does is that it views all the variables or chose all the variables that you've declared on your procedure or on your macro and gave us the name of the variable and the value and the type of the variable and we will speak later on about variables.

This is going to be useful in error handling and debugging as well. Okay, and the third window is actually the watch window which you can view it of course by going to the View menu at the top and then clicking on watch window here. And you can see here with this watch window, it can actually watch the value of either variable or an expression so you can just put an expression in there that would contain several variables, it could contain several variables. Okay, so like a formula that could contain survivors and it works actually, just as the watch window in Excel works for watching expressions or formulas are results of formulas in certain cells. And we will see the functionality of that window later on in the course when we speak about our handling and debugging. So that was just an overview of three windows that are useful for error handling and debugging which are the immediate window and the locals window and watch window.
