Okay, so now we've started to create our LinkedIn profile. The next thing we need to do is choose our zip code. So wherever you live right now, and then choose whether you're an employed you're a job seeker or a student, okay, so if you own your own company, or if you're employed by company, just leave it at employed. If you're a job seeker and you're actually looking for a job, this is also a great way to apply for jobs a little outside of the scope of what we're going to be talking about in this course. But by all means, experiment with that, and if you're a student, you can also choose student it's a great way to network and end up meeting people and recruiters and companies that are looking for people that are about to graduate. So if you are the job, if you have a job, just enter your title here.
But if not just enter your you know, maybe I'm the owner of my company here. I'm self employed. Industry. You cannot choose down here what industry that you're wanting to be a part of I mean, elearning is probably pretty close to what we're doing here. So we'll just leave it at elearning. And create create my profile.
So on this screen, you can enter your email and password. If they support your email service, then you can import all your contacts. But for now, let's just skip this step. So now we're here, Congratulations, you've created your professional profile, we're still at step four, though, a couple more things we can do. We've got a link here that you can send people, if you just join LinkedIn, create your professional profile, join my network, you can share this on your Facebook profile, you can also share this on your Twitter profile. If you decide to do that, then it's a great thing to do.
You just click here and make sure you're logged into Facebook on the browser and they'll do it automatically. Okay, then you can also write whatever you want to hear. It doesn't have to necessarily be this but that's what they've used at work. So next thing we'll do was get this for now. And then there's a couple different options here. There's the premium and basic free version.
Okay, so for now, we're just going to stick with the basic free version. Okay, you can choose the premium that gives you a couple extra features. You can look at who's viewed your LinkedIn profile. You can review professional profiles, which is people that have premium. You can send messages. There's, there's a couple extra things you can do for now for what we're trying to do.
This is fine. So let's just choose basic and or you can skip this step and come back to it. So actually, let's just do that. We'll just skip this step. We'll come back to this later. And they'll ask us again at some point.
All right, so now we've got my professional network is created. And since I did this a couple times, I think it created it three times for me so I have to go back and change that. But now all the steps are figured out. And then you would just go in and you would fill out personal information just like a Facebook profile. Next up, it's going to be about business. So you'll put your skills, your personal info, your education, you can also show partnerships with other people you've worked with.
So it's very cool. Okay, so let's say I started my business in 2012, January of 2012. I'll say that. And we'll skip these because these aren't really positions I'm trying to. And you can also say where else you've worked if you want to, you don't have to make this about your jobs. Okay.
Whatever jobs you've had, you may want to have a separate LinkedIn profile for that, um, if this is your business profile, and you're trying to start your own business and connect with people, you don't necessarily have to say, you know where you worked. You don't necessarily have to say where you attended school if you want to, that's fine. You can list your school. Maybe other people will try to connect with you from your school, but it's not a necessity. Get on Add some skills as well know any languages Yes or no? I don't.
And I should better don't. So we can just say, finished for now or you can continue improving. If you were to go to continue improving, you would just come here. I think it just wants us to ask, answer the questions that we skipped. So we don't need to do that. Okay.
You can summarize yourself and your objectives, okay. So this would be a good, really good place to talk about your values, and what's important to you and your business. It's only going to help you really connect with people that share those same values as well. We'll skip that for now though. And now we're finished. Okay, so we can edit these.
I can come in and I can remove this position. I can remove this one. Awesome. Okay, so now we've got 35% of our profile is complete, you can now start adding, you know, connections, you can add your website here, you can add your Twitter account, they give you your, your public profile here. And there's just there's a lot more you can add to your LinkedIn account. But basically at this point, we've got a good account, you may want to add a photo here, I recommend it.
It's good to add a photo so people know who they're talking to. Okay, just builds trust. But the more you can include about who you've worked with what you've done, include your values that's really going to help you connect with people. You know, when you when you're trying to connect with someone with shared values. It doesn't matter how high you know, on the business totem pole, they are people just it really resonates with people. Okay, so figure out what's important to you.
And then include that in your LinkedIn profile as well. And then if you want to Go and complete, you know all this other stuff, you definitely can just round it out. But for the purpose of this video, we've created our account, we've added some of the important things. And now we can move on to some more of the techniques to really utilize LinkedIn.
