Dr. Elizabeth Searing's Introduction
I strive to help those who help others.
I joined the University of Texas at Dallas in August 2020, where I am a part of a dynamic team of public administration and nonprofit experts. Prior to joining UTD, I was an Assistant Professor of Public Administration and Policy at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany (SUNY). I am also the former Director of the Institute of Nonprofit Leadership and Community Development at the University at Albany, which is an organization dedicated to leveraging the benefits of local colleges to serve the local nonprofit community.
I also believe in the value of contributing to my scholarly community. I am an Associate Editor on the editorial board of Nonprofit Management Leadership; am on the board of VOLUNTAS and Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management; and am currently the Program Chair for the Public Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management.
I have published 25+ articles in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Nonprofit Management Leadership, Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, and Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. I am also an editor of two books: Practicing Professional Ethics in Economics and Public Policy (with D. Searing) and The Social Enterprise Zoo: A Guide to Perplexed Entrepreneurs, Philanthropists, Investors, and Policymakers(with D. Young and C. Brewer). Finally, I recently coauthored (with D. Young) the timely book, Resilience and the Management of Nonprofit Organizations: A New Paradigm.
