Welcome to ultimate drumming calm. I'm Jim McCall. I'm going to show you this really cool Santa 12 eight Phil. person I'm going to play it for you. I'm going to break it down note by note and show you how it works 12323 When playing these great sounding 12 eight fills, you got to be thinking at 12 a time. The 12 eight times signature means you're playing 12 eighth notes in a measure.
And each eighth note is getting one count be like this 1-234-567-8910 11 well. Now counting all the way up to 12 can be a mouthful, especially when you get into the numbers that have more than one syllable. So a shortcut would be to count one 23123123123 like so 123123123123 now when I'm counting groups of three, it's important to remember that it takes four groups of three to equal 12. I'm going to add the foot, the foot is going to go on each one that I say in each group of three would go like this 1-231-231-2313. This great sound and 12 a film consists of an eighth note, followed by four 16th. I'm placing the eighth note on the one and the 16th.
We're going to be on the two and three and now when I'm counting in three This is the way it's gonna work. One and two, and three and one and two, and three and one, two and three, and one and two, and three. When playing this pattern, there's a little bit of the trick to the sticking. So I'm going to start with the right hand on the one, and then double up the right hand and play the right hand on two. And all the other notes are going to be alternating. So it's going to go like this.
A one and two and three and one and two and three and one and two, and three and one, two, and three. by doubling up with the right hand, it makes it so I can lead with the Right hand as I move around the drums crashing the cymbals. Now I'm going to add the foot on the one and then I'm going to crash this symbol on to one. And I'm going to maintain that sticking the right right left right, left right, right, left right, left, right, right, left, right, left, right, right, left, right, left. So it's gonna go like this. One and two and three and one and two and three and one and two, three, and one and two and three.
Now once you get comfortable with that template, you're going to work up the speed a little bit. Then we're going to combine two measures of this 12 eight fill with two measures 12 eight beat two measures 12 eight fill two measures be something like 123123 There you have it another fantastic 12 eight feel that you can add to your drumming repertoire. I'm Jim McCall. Thanks for watching, and thanks for using ultimate drumming calm
