Welcome to ultimate drumming calm. I'm Jim McCall. I'm going to show you this really cool 12 eight beat. First I'm going to play it for you. Then I'm going to break it down note by note and show you how to work 123123123 When playing in the 12, eight time signature, you gotta be counting the eighth note, there's going to be 12 eighth notes in a measure. Now I'm going to play the ride pattern on all the eighth notes.
So I'm going to be counting 12 eighth notes in a measure, it's going to go like this 1-234-567-8910 11 or 12 1-234-567-8910 1112 12456789 1011. Well, that counting up to 12 can be a real mouthful, especially when you get into the numbers that have more than one syllable. So a shortcut would be to count one, two 312-312-3123 of course, knowing that it's going to take four groupings of three to equal 12 we just don't teach you drums we teach you math too. So it would be like this 1-231-231-2312 3131231231. When playing this pattern, the bass drum is going to go on beats one and beat seven. Or if I'm counting 123123, it would go on the one on the first grouping of three, and on the one of the third grouping of three.
I'm going to coordinate the bass drum together with the right hand playing the right pattern. It's going to go like this 1-234-567-8910 12 13456 Seven a 911212312312. The snare drums gone on beats four and beats 10. If I'm counting to three, then the snare drum would go on the second grouping of three on beat one. And on the fourth grouping of three on beat one, I'm going to count it both ways. I'm going to coordinate everything together 1-234-567-8910 1112.
Now once you get comfortable at that tempo, we're going to pick it up a little bit. It's smart practice to play a couple measures on the high hat with the ride pattern in a couple measures on the ride cymbal with the ride pattern and get used to switch Back and forth, something like this 123123123 There you have it another excellent sounding 12 eight rhythmic pattern that you can add to your drumming library at ultimate drumming calm. I'm Joe McCall. Thanks for watching. I'll see you as soon as ultimate Ronnie
