Now we shall learn the actual steps of self publishing. The first step after your book is written is to formatted properly to make it look like a real paperback and an electronic book suitable for E readers like Kindle nook, Kobo, and so on. Many others think only the story matters for readers, but it is not so people not only judge a book by its cover, but also by the way the interiors are done and the overall look and feel of the book. For example, if you look at any famous book published by some top publisher, you will notice it will be structured properly with a nice cover and interior title page, a separate page for the preface, a separate page for copyright, Table of Contents acknowledgement and so on.

All chapters will start on the right hand page. Chapter will have its own headers and beautifully sized fonts will be used for the chapter headings and so on. A book cover has three parts the front and the back and despite each of these has certain specifications. The front cover should contain the title, the subtitle, the author's name and some suitable images.

The back cover should contain a brief and interesting summary of the book and author's photo the barcode, some reviews and so on. People judge a book by its cover, but you cannot choose whatever front cover you want. book covers must catch the reader's eye, and must also be suitable for the subject you are writing. Now the back cover. The book summary or description on the back cover must also be carefully written. It must be brief, interesting and outrageous enough to appeal to readers, so do not write the summary in a hurry. Look at the books published by top publishers to get an idea of what and how much to write. Also, do not reveal any secrets on your back cover. You cannot publish book in any size you want, but we'll have to choose from one of the industry standard sizes. Open Microsoft Word start a new document and make the following page settings. The next lecture will also show a video of this. Now set the paragraph as below, you can set the alignment to justified and the indentation as the first line 2.2 inch spacing you can set it as six points at line spacing you can set it as 1.15 rather than a single line spacing. This will improve the readability of your text Now set Roman numbers for the initial pages section. If you notice any book published by a top publisher, the first few pages will have Roman numbers as its page numbers.

You can also set it this way by using this formatting method, where you choose the number format as Roman and start at one for the page numbering. This applies to the first section where you have the Table of Contents the copyright, the preface and so on. Then set English numbers for chapter one section onwards. from chapter one onwards, you can set the page numbers to English numbers. Here you choose the number format as English numbers and page numbering start at one for chapter one section onwards. Similarly for chapter two section On where you can continue the English numbers by selecting the continue from previous section option, headers and footers.

I will show you these things in the video section. headers and footers are the area where you put the chapter name and the book title name in the book. If you notice any top book you will find each and every page left page top will have the book title name, and the right hand side will have the chapter name for each book. Now exporting to PDF. Once the word file is ready, we'll have to export it to PDF. These are the settings for the PDF file look at the right side image.

The default settings is high quality print, add a PDF page sizes five by eight. Once we export it, your PDF file will look like this. If you notice this interior, on the left side tops, there is a book title called become an author. On the right side top, it is the chapter name called writing your book. And in the paragraph You see, for example, if you look at the right side page, why become an author, the word wise starts slightly to the right. This is called the first line indentation.
