Yay, luck. I love work, especially since I am a world class workaholic to the max. Anyway, randomness aside, In this lesson, we will discuss the different types of projects and work available when it comes to VR and the visual effects in film industry, as well as what to expect specifically when preparing for VR work. Now, game engines are highly popular in these projects so much that even post production software typically designed for film are changing and given new features, becoming a more aware of the VR trend. So on that note, the kind of work to expect would involve in understanding and designing for a user in a 360 of VR environment, whether it is for a game or for film, you need to know how to direct your audience's attention in VR. And that is key.

Another kind of work that's becoming popular as interactive video. So In that sense, knowing how to design for interactivity like interactive spots and how to move the story forward with VR is going to become key in the industry as well. Now, if you're a filmmaker, you might be wondering, how does VR affects you and your industry? Well, the kinds of VR projects that filmmakers are seeking to create tend to fall into these categories. Firstly, short VR teasers for major blockbuster movies. For example, 50 Shades of Grey Jurassic World Avengers, you've seen many of those, and those are usually high budget work done by major visual effects or production companies.

Next, we have VR short films, usually live action and work that can be done by me, you or anyone in this planet with the right tools pack. There are plenty of tools out there, though technically what people count as VR short films, actually 360 panoramic videos more so than actual VR videos. Some examples in this category include work from companies like within, and jaunt, which we will discuss in a later lesson, who usually creates VR short film work. So whether it is high budget, low budget, any type and quality of VR short film is possible in this category. Then we have the VR animated shots with or without interactive portions. For example, Henry by Oculus story studio.

This is a piece that we will cover in a later lesson, but it has a blend of both and animated narrative and interactivity in certain parts of the animation. So some animated shorts have interactive portions and some of them don't. And a choice in this really changes the strategy of how the piece would be developed from beginning since these types of projects usually require more skill, and finesse. filmmakers who create these types of VR content tend to have a better understanding of what VR is and how to make good content with interactivity. You can also find most of these works on the Oculus Oh, steam VR. Lastly, we have the fully interactive story, either fully computer generated CG, or film.

A good example is the motion experienced by Fox innovation labs, a hybrid between interactive storytelling and CG and film. Now, I actually had the opportunity to visit a lab and experience the Martian for myself, where they had interactive snippets of gaming mixed with film content, or hyperreal. CGI. In fact, many high end studios, even indie filmmakers are looking to push that boundary of interactive film today, given the available tools. Okay, I'm in doubt a lot more categories and examples. But before I get way ahead of myself, just to wrap things up, as you can see, there are lots of options and opportunities for VR filmmakers, as well as artists and creators.

So if you are in the hunt to work on a VR project, you know where to Find them and what to look for. Speaking of filmmakers and creators, in the next lesson, we will touch on the provenance of names and companies in the space for those curious and looking to follow a bunch of big names and influences in VR.
