Hello, this is Rob here from Rob carbon calm. And remember, if you're on a Mac, you should use ScreenFlow for your screen recordings and video editing. And if you're on a PC, I would suggest you use Camtasia. So if you'd like to purchase Camtasia through my affiliate link, please go to rob coven comm forward slash go forward slash Camtasia. If you don't want to do that, that's absolutely fine, of course, just google Camtasia. And you can go direct to their site.
So going through the affiliate link, now, there is their site and you would buy the PC version. Mac users, I wouldn't advise you to use Camtasia I'd use ScreenFlow. It's cheaper, but we're going to go through the free trial and we'll download it Okay, so I just downloaded Camtasia. And here it is. And it works almost exactly like ScreenFlow. First of all, I would ask you to check your preferences.
And in the canvas section, I would choose both your full screen recording and your region recording as Canvas dimensions HD with the 1900 by 20 by 1000 by 80 selected. Now the reason I'm asking you to do this is definitely because it's 69 you could choose this one, that wouldn't be too bad, but it's the 69 and HD that you want. Other than that, there's nothing else to worry about. So now that we've done that, we can do New File New and then we get a blank canvas. So let's start recording and same as ScreenFlow. We have a icon here at the top where you can just start recording and there we have to make Should we have our mic selected, and it's not the built in mic, but that was automatically selected, and we could record the full screen.
So let's select Full screen and not the camera. And then all we've got to do is click to start recording. And then Camtasia gets rid of the application itself. It's just hide hidden it. And we're free to record anything on the screen. And obviously record the audio on the mic.
So there's the Camtasia website, and let's stop recording now. Now that's opened the canvas that we had already created. Of course, we could save this as a Camtasia project. And as you can see, we've got our audio and video up here in the media just like ScreenFlow and here it is in the timeline at the bottom. Of course, we can resize this so it fills up Our screen command plus and minus alters the size of the stage there. So at the bottom here, you have the recording.
And just like ScreenFlow, we can select with shift held down a region where I'm not talking in and we can refer delete by going command delete exactly the same as ScreenFlow. Or you can Ripple Delete range there, that deletes the selection you made and closes up the video and it will close up on all the other tracks above and below as well. So if we scroll over to where I went to the website, and let's pretend we want to zoom in, we can go to animations, zoom in, and pull that down here. And as you can see that zoomed in, we can then move this to a place in the screen where we wanted to zoom in and Zoom out again, we can just take that down there, and it's zoomed out to fit the screen again, we'll have to decrease the size of the stage and get it to fill it as well.
So we've got to zoom in and zoom out and adding text and transitions is very similar to ScreenFlow. And adding annotations, text and highlighting is very similar to ScreenFlow. The annotations are here we can add annotations to highlight a certain area. We can add text, increase the size, and decrease the duration that appears on the timeline and the cursor spotlight and the cursor effects. is always very useful. And in order to add media, you can right click here import media, where you can actually do it here File Import Media Command or Control I.
And then you could just drag the media down to the timeline and extend it so it fits in the stage. And then of course, you have transitions fade in and out. drag that over to the part you want to fade in and out, there is the transition fading in and you have to do it again to the end, and then it will fade out and exactly the same with ScreenFlow. This is our Camtasia document, similar to a ScreenFlow document. And of course we have to export in order to get it into a format that can be uploaded to a video site like Vimeo, YouTube, or indeed Udemy for video courses. And to do that you go share, export And unlike ScreenFlow, it doesn't give you any options to export at certain bit rates or magnifications.
But we'll just do the export there. And there is the file. It's very short and 27 meg. So you can see it's exported at a higher at the size that we chose the dimensions that we chose. And that's very high res. That's a very large file.
You can use the smaller setting if you want on that, but that is a very good high quality mp4 file. And if you look at it here, you can see it's very high definition so you won't have a problem with that uploading to Udemy or anywhere else. Okay, I hope you enjoyed that. So a little introduction to Camtasia is similar to the introduction to ScreenFlow. There are both extremely easy packages to master you might say Spend a few hours before you get really on top of it. But they are both extremely powerful packages, not only for recording screencasting on your PC or Mac, but they're also excellent editors as I hope I've shown you in these videos.
Okay, this is Rob from Rob coven calm. I'll see you in the next video.
