Hello, this is Rob here from Rob coven.com. And I'm going to talk about what video is what sort of video I think you should be doing and why I think you should be making it. Now, what videos should you create? Well, when I'm talking about video, what I mean is we'll start off with five minute long tutorial videos, or slideshow videos. And what I mean by that is the videos you see on YouTube typically only five minutes showing you something of value that you do on software. So it can be a screen recording, and I'll get on to the software for doing that later.
ScreenFlow and Camtasia but it will be a ScreenFlow of a task done on a certain software or application or it could be a slideshow video. Which is just like this where you show the slides in a PowerPoint presentation and talk over it. In both cases. This is extremely easy video to create. You only need the software and a decent microphone and we'll come on to that later of course. Now later on these five minute long tutorials or slideshow videos can be combined into a video course and these can last 30 minutes.
30 Minutes is the shortest course you can get on Udemy. I would advise you to create a free course for 30 minutes, but you can create courses for an hour or two or more hours. I wouldn't go much more over than two and a half three hours for a video course. And these can be sold for large amounts of money either on Udemy or on other online learning platforms on your site, typically for a membership site and the video needs to be high definition video and it needs needs to be in 16 nine format. And what that means is the wide standard format you see on YouTube, not the more square boxy, four, three or five, four format. So it's 16 nine format, but we'll show you how to do that later as well.
But that's the video I'm talking about. You can of course, sit in front of a video camera and record yourself talking to the camera. This is very good. If you can do this, you need to do it. Well. It is harder to do.
It's more time consuming. It's a little bit more expensive, although you can do it on your iPhone if you have one. It's a great idea to do but I think in order to start you know, you should be looking at the screencasting software because it's a really easy way into it. Now why should you use video now video is a great way to show how products work. Imagine trying to explain how Microsoft Word works. Using only text.
It'd be very difficult Of course it's better to show it on video. show how software and products work. And this can give you affiliate commissions. If nothing else, you can show how a premium plugin for WordPress or a premium theme for WordPress works with an affiliate link underneath, and you'll make money that way. So video is a great way to show how software works. It's a form of long form personal intimate content.
With video, you can see the content creators face, you will hear their voice, you may see the home or WordPress in the background, but you'll spend more time with them and get a more intimate, closer connection with the content creator. That's you. So you are creating a stronger bond between you and your audience or you and your customers and video is the best for this. It's better than text. It's better than podcasting. It's the most immersive content that we have.
And people will be enormously grateful when you've shown them exactly where to click on a different application, and what to do. And you may be even showing them how to make money, which always goes down very well. And people will show their gratitude by following you and promoting you to other people. So it will show you as an expert and an authority. And the last two reasons are my favorite reasons for doing video. Video takes less time to make than writing ebooks.
So a course of two or three hours will take you less time to do than it will for writing 12,000 word book for kindle, and even better than that, you can charge more for it. It is more profitable than writing ebooks. You charge quite large amounts for in depth and niche down video courses. So two or three video courses. To sell between 49 and $99, even $199 on a website, it might go for $30 a month on a membership sites and people will stay multiple months to view the video on Udemy or two or three hour course could be selling for $99. Typically though, of course on Udemy most of the purchases are done on discounts, so it will sell for 10 to $20.
However, this is a lot more money than you'll be getting for E books on Kindle store of only 12,000 words because they will be typically $2 99. So it's all about the numbers of people who buy the units. It's all about how many units you need to sell. But if you sell the same amount, you will make a hell of a lot more money on video. Okay, I hope you enjoyed that. That is the what and the why of video.
I'll come back and talk about the all important how How you create this video and start making money and building your brand with it, and I hope to see you in that video. And for now it's thank you very much from Rob at Rob coven.com
