Alright, now that we've covered the three P's, it's time to move on to the different departments generally involved in film production. These departments are normally scattered across all phases, but in general, we have the following areas and film for you to hone in on. Now, once again, this is not an exhaustive list.

And if you would like more details of departments, I suggest you wait to the credit scene actually roll and count the number of headings in that credit roll. Those would generally be your departments for that production. Now you're obviously here to actually get into the industry. So we're not assuming you Get a director of dp position right off the bat, there's going to be some climbing of the hierarchical letter involved, as well as some significant number of hours required before you actually achieve the next advanced position. So I put together a quick list of some of the entry level positions you would generally want to get in order to get into specific departments. As you can see, there is almost a PA specific to each department.

So if you already know what you want to do in film based on our earlier exercise, if you did it, then you would be focusing specifically on getting that and only that position alone. However, let me bring your attention to these three positions. Now, if you're still learning the ropes, unsure of which department you want to focus on, I just like to experiment with different fields at a time. Because you actually get to see how the entire process is organized, the resources that go into production and how the office can be just as active and messed up as the production set.

Yes, paper can fly, but you have to get used to it, especially if you eventually want to become a producer. Anyway, tasks generally include signing paperwork, filling in crew information, calling up crew members or rental hands on information. And if you're lucky, helping a second assistant director or production coordinator with shooting schedules and script breakdowns. Lastly, and most infamously it's the intern position. Now the cool thing about this position is that it is technically a position less position, kind of like a floater when you volunteer for a conference or Film Festival. Tracks can range from all of the tasks of both the offices and PA even From the other departments if you have some basic skills, experience or passion in those areas, which we'll talk about in the later section.

The best thing about being an intern Howard saying is that you get to choose how much you want to learn by being involved in whichever area you are needed. I'm most interested in. For example, I could be an intern at a production house, and I have an interest in camera and sound. I could always ask to go on set to assist those departments like carrying and managing their equipment, or stay in and assist in the post production side of sound like transferring the sound files captured on set.
