School counselors’ letters of recommendation are a key piece of information for a successful college application.

To do this, their counselors will often collect information from students in the form of a packet or a list of questions about the student’s life. There are questions both the students and parents answer in a series of short essays. This packet goes by many names, depending on the school, including junior packet; senior packet; brag sheet or counselor packet, but they all have the same purpose. They are there to help counselors to write a good letter of recommendation.

More importantly, the current college application climate is more intense than ever, and students must have every advantage possible. If they are unable to provide information to their teachers and counselors necessary for a stellar letter of recommendation, then they are missing a vital resource that could set them apart from the tens of thousands of students applying to the same colleges.
