Hi, as I've said in the previous lecture, there will be external factors or unpredicted situations that you have no control over. Some of these situations might be unpleasant, disheartening, killing your motivation, emotionally difficult, etc. This is all normal because this is how life works. No matter how much money you have for your status or your fortunes, external factors exist. For that reason, we have to learn how to deal with difficulties and more specifically, failure. Welcome to the eighth trait or habit of highly successful individuals.
I am going to be brutally honest with you. You can read all the books and watch all the courses on setting goals. And still there will be goals of yours that you will not achieve from the first or second time. You can program your mind in your subconscious in whatever way you want. It's close to impossible. To achieve 100% of your goals with your first attempt, in fact, it is highly likely there will be goals of yours that you will not achieve at all.
And you will give up this is not because you're weak is because you've realized that this is not what you want it. And I want to say that because I've had enough of the modern stupid self help movement that teaches us things like you can achieve everything with the law of attraction, you can achieve everything with the power of positive thinking, three rules of success, two keys to eternal happiness, etc. Remember this by default, people are looking for quick solutions, quick fixes. People want things fast. People want things now, and people don't want to work hard to achieve a particular result. In other words, they want to do extremely easy activities and have outstanding results in these The reasons why the self help movement has changed, because the authors make more money when they sell quick fixes.
But let's get back to our topic. Whatever you do, at some point, you will fail. That sounds encouraging, doesn't it? Maybe you have already failed at something I don't know. But I can tell you I have. In fact, I failed more than once.
In here is the thing. I've noticed that successful people have a specific mindset or attitude towards failure. And I want to dig deep into the topic. I don't want to give you overused phrases like you must learn from your mistakes, etc. No, no, no. I'm talking about having the right mindset that will help you persevere through failures and difficulties.
Many great quotes come to mind right now. But I want to share one with you that you need to remember or print out and put on a place that you can Read daily. If you want to increase your success rate, you must double your failure rate. And this is by Mr. Thomas Watson. And this is a nice philosophy to have, because the quintessence here is that success and failure are inextricably linked, and you cannot achieve success without failure. This is huge.
And this is where the major shift comes. You don't regret when you fail, you don't feel self pity. Instead, you see failure as a stepping stone towards your success. Failure is inevitable. Our perception of failure is what matters. There is a science called systems theory.
And there, they don't use the word failure. They use the word feedback. You try something and it doesn't work practically This is failure. But systems thinkers would say great This is feedback now, I have more information. And the decisions I will make an action site will do in the future will be more informed, backed with experience, because they have valuable feedback. And the big realization here is that failure contains valuable information that we must use to increase the chances of success in the future.
It was long time ago and I was asked the question, what is your What do you think? Do you learn and develop yourself more when you fail or when you succeed? And I was thinking about the answer and I came up to a conclusion that we don't learn from success as much as we learn from failure. So if you experience fear of failure, you will have to shift your mindset. You should start seeing failure as a stepping stone and not as a stumbling block. All right, let's recap.
Failure is inevitable. success and failure are inextricably linked and you cannot achieve success without failure. how we perceive failure is critically important for our success. Failure contains very important information we need for future decisions. And I want to finish with the quote. If you want to increase your success rate, you must double your failure rate.
Thank you for watching and be purposeful
