This class will go over everything from the structure of the classroom, visuals, teaching strategies, and behavioral strategies to maximize learning for students with autism.
Session 1: Overview of Evidence-Based Practices and Strategies. Autism statistics will be discussed as well as necessary classroom structure and classroom visuals to maximize learning.
Session 2: Applied Behavior Analysis and the positives of using it to enhance learning. Covering the misconceptions, improperly trained staffing issues, etc. Example videos of common behavior problems and how to solve them by using strategies. We will go over patterns to look for to them implement easy-to-use strategies that have been implemented in a huge school system and proven to work. You will learn what a basic behavior plan will look like.
Session 3: Video models, activity schedules, visual systems that all make people with autism more independent people.
Session 4: Teaching Comprehension/Conversation · How do learners with autism learn? · What the brain of a person with autism may look and work like. · Using a visual map to get the information. · Using natural stimuli within their environment as prompts · Steps to teach Reading Comprehension · Steps to teach a 3 or more exchange conversation.
Session 5: Question and Answers. You will have the time to ask questions and for me to answer them to the best of my ability
