Theories of change offer a mental map or narrative depiction for an overall understanding of how to change activities, assumptions, and thinking to interplay to move from a current situation to a desired change. This chart helps compare various theories of change applying various considerations, like when to use the strategy based on political context, or political leadership style from collaborative to exclusive or more confrontational. If we aim to use more collaborative approaches in social change work, we need new strategies to build political will for collaboration. This would include demonstrating the value of collaboration compared to protest and other change strategies. The chart may help demonstrate those options. Collaborative Governance is a new theory of change that is beyond protest and conflict-based politics.
