Notes on the Pieces:
- Ancestral Voyager uses the DADGAD tuning – well known as being an excellent tuning for Celtic music. This piece is an homage to the largest part of my family's ancestral roots in Ireland
- Puamana is named after a favorite place near Lahaina on the west coast of Maui. The vibe is laid back and peaceful with some challenging left-hand guitar techniques.
- Waterfall Sunrise is an arpeggio study designed to maintain a continuous flow of sound like a waterfall. It takes full advantage of the open tuning to layer the melody on top of the continuous flow of supporting notes.
- Summer Solstice is the first of three pieces in Open C tuning – it takes advantage of the octaves built into the tuning to emulate a 12-string.
- Tender Dreams is a slower “piece for a rainy day” in Open C. This piece was selected as a Finalist in the 2020 International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA).
- Happy Hoedown is a rip-roaring finale to the suite of three Open C tuning pieces. It conjures the energy and excitement of a fiddle breakdown
- Mysterious Deep began as a spontaneous meditative improvisation which is now featured on more than 40 online guitar compilations online and the soundtrack of the yoga DVD “Whale Yoga for Kids” published by Gaiam.
- Cloud Sailing is in an unusual tuning - the sound is a minor 6th chord with an added 9th. The piece reminds me of the feeling of floating or sailing through clouds. The right-hand arpeggio calls on the player to bring out a longer melody over arpeggiated chords.
Happy Picking :-)
