This tool and activity offer a model that can guide us to gently look at our inner systems and patterns, including our internalized oppression, to heal them. It is based on a framework for understanding the trauma that includes four parts in the chart: 1 1-an event itself that was experienced as traumatic, 2 our specific feelings at the time of the incident, 3-how we experienced those feelings and how we dealt with them at the time, 4-how the way we are dealing with our unresolved feelings became a pattern. This can illuminate how that pattern is still at work when we react or live out of our trauma responses. We can journal about these experiences to take some power away from these experiences. Using this trauma journal, we can look at these experiences more objectively from a safer place and decide how to address each one. This and other tools will be helpful in addressing lateral violence, workplace safety and health, family, and community cultures that are unhealthy.
