Course contents

• Week 1: Basic arithmetic; Highest common factors and lowest common multiples; Order of precedence and brackets; Adding and subtracting fractions; Multiplication and division of fractions; decimals; Converting decimals to fractions and vice-versa; Percentages.
• Week 2: Ratio and proportion; powers, roots, and laws of indices; units, prefixes, and engineering notation; Basic algebra; Solving simple equations.
• Week 3: Transposing formulae; Solving simultaneous equations; Two unknowns; Three unknowns.
• Week 4: Solving quadratic equations; Solution of quadratic equations; Solution of linear and quadratic equations simultaneously; Laws of logarithms; Indicial equations; Graphs of logarithmic functions. Exponential functions; The power series for ex; Graphs of exponential functions.
