I’ve been helping students learn English for nearly 20 years, though I've been fascinated by words and languages my whole life. I really enjoyed learning Spanish (and a little of several other languages), but what sparked my love for teaching English was volunteering for an organization that welcomed immigrants to the U.S. As a high school student I was matched with a family newly arrived from Mexico. I helped them with English and adjusting to American life, and they told me stories and showed me how to make tortillas. I learned at least as much as I taught!
It was such a positive experience that I was thrilled when I had an opportunity to start teaching adult school English (ESL).I loved getting to know my students and watch them grow in confidence & speaking ability in Eng.   That’s why I’m passionate about helping people learn effective English communication skills.
While teaching adult school (in the early days of the Internet) I was always searching for materials to supplement our textbooks and that my students could use on their own. That’s one reason I started my website, EnglishHints.com, in 2011.
Over the years I’ve developed some pdfs of lesson plans, reading comprehension materials, worksheets, and games for ESL teachers as well as practice materials and courses for intermediate to advanced students of English
I also teach individual and group English communication skills to help researchers and other professionals from non-English-speaking countries who want to further develop their English effectiveness and confidence. My program is personalized, but it emphasizes workplace communication, considering the most appropriate words for each purpose, and rehearsing the best responses in English in various situations so my students can achieve the results they're looking for.
