Are you a sushi lover? This stunning food is visual art in itself, and in this class, we will capture it in watercolor. This class is geared towards intermediate watercolor artists and uses basic watercolor supplies. Follow along as I paint 10 pieces of sushi, with an assortment of nigiri and sushi rolls. We’ll work on building layers, creating texture, and adding glazes to intensify the paintings. We will work on creating texture on the rice portion of the sushi, adding illustrations of specific ingredients, like sesame seeds and roe, and creating vibrant toppings. The class is divided up into chapters by illustration with each chapter under ten minutes and most illustrations are two chapters long. You can watch all 10 illustrations being created or just select the ones that interest you. Class includes a class supply list, class template to sketch each image sushi vocabulary sheet, and a bonus class of watercolor sushi accompaniments. For your class project, create your own sushi painting by either sketching the image from the template or tracing it onto watercolor paper. or modify the template sketches to create your favorite sushi piece. Then, create texture, add shadows, and highlights. Have fun selecting bold colors and creating a contrast between the light shades of the rice and the vibrant toppings. We will work on wet technique, wet on dry technique, adding a glaze, lifting color, and adding intense color for shading.
