Okay, so now I have finished my illustration, I have changed it a little bit I have added more air around the text to make it look lighter and have also straighten some of these lines so that not all of them are going in these directions. So I could have even made this even more straight but I'm gonna leave it at this you might notice that I've changed the color and the contrast is not very big and it doesn't look very good but I tested the texture which I'm going to get into next and so that the texture will work with the writing I have changed the writing a whole lot lighter. You will see in a minute why I have created two free texture templates for you. You can download them from my website The link is provided in the class description and the password for them is create one On my website, click the texture link and it will open a new window on your iPad.
On the top right corner, click the little square icon with an arrow coming out of it, and you'll see a pop up, choose Save Image and the texture will be saved on your iPad under photos. So once you have the texture file on your iPad, you need to create a new layer for it. And as you can see, I already have one that's called texture because I tested it out. But I'll create a new one so you see how I've done this. So I'm now on my new texture layer. And then I will go here where there's a little tool icon.
So hit that and you'll get a list. Choose to insert a photo. And then in your photos folder. Find where you've downloaded your texture file and click that so as you can see it's not the same size. So to get it to fit your whole illustration you need to press this little arrow sign down here. So I'm going to choose magnetic so that it will cover the whole image because if I choose free form, it will leave parts of it uncovered, so magnetic and the arrows and then after that I will manually change it to fit my illustration because I want to keep the texture that's here in the corners.
So do select by clicking the arrow again. And as you can see, the background color is not showing at all. So to get that To show through, I will go here on the texture layer, click the little n and that will open the blend modes for me. So the easiest way for you is just to try them out. See what they do for your illustration, multiply work sometimes really nicely. This one may be not so perfect, quite like the darken but if I would choose it, I would make the texture layer a little bit smaller so that it wouldn't cover the white parts.
Let's see. These don't work. I quite like this soft light version. Because it turns my texture is kind of coral color. So And that's the one I'm going to choose. So now you see that the writing that I've changed works quite nicely when the background is much lighter.
So if I uncheck that you see what I had before I had the texture on it and the contrast is not big enough, it doesn't look very good. But with the texture on it, and the blend mode, the soft light blend mode it it works quite nicely. So that's how you add texture and give a little crunchy vibe to your illustration.
