Eight-Section Silken Stretching Qi Gong. Baduanjin qigong 八段锦; variously translated as Eight Pieces of Brocade, Eight-Section Brocade, Eight Silken Movements or Eight Silk Weaving, the name of the form generally refers to how the eight individual movements of the form characterize and impart a silken quality (like that of a piece of brocade) to the body and its energy.
Tai chi, short for T'ai chi ch'üan or Tàijí quán (Chinese: 太极拳,太極拳; pinyin: Tàijí quán), is a traditional Chinese martial art which combines mind and awareness of our body, the deep diaphragmatic breathing, and Qi, the inherent vital energy, through graceful movements to achieve mindfulness and relaxation. Tai chi is practiced for both its defense training, its health benefits, and meditation.
Qigong, qi gong, chi kung, or chi gung (simplified Chinese: 气功 qìgōng literally: "Life Energy Cultivation") is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used in the belief it promotes health, spirituality, and martial arts training. Qigong practice typically involves moving meditation, coordinating slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and calm meditative state of mind. Qigong can be viewed as a medicinal movement practice, combining breath work, relaxation, movement, and self-massage all in one.
