About the Class

What will you learn in this course?

Parenting in the age of technology holds universal struggles alongside the joy of watching your child learn new and exciting things. For many modern parents, the adult digital world experienced by our children often triggers a reactive approach whereby the caring parents are forced to problem solve in a confusing, foreign landscape. Humans, in general, learn by doing and are reactive i.e., protective) when there is some potential danger.

  • Wouldn’t it be easier if parents were empowered with a plan where they can offer levels of screen access incrementally based on their child’s age and ability to manage their current privileges?
  • Akin to most other parenting challenges, the digital world provokes predictable concerns coupled with a child’s instinct to explore, test limits, and learn by trial and error.
  • Shifting from a reactive stance to a proactive level system provides a framework that lowers parent’s anxiety as they feel more in control based on a familiar reference point; plus, clearly defined rules and expectations help children learn to self regulate as they are motivated to earn more access as they follow the plan.
  • Unlike classroom rules or traffic laws that our children accept as they develop, the digital world does not come with a rule book. This is where the concept of digital access boxes, or DABs, can be helpful.

A parent is eager to secure the health and safety of their child ren while promoting an environment for the child to grow and learn to self-regulate in our overstimulating tech-infused world.
