Advanced mark-making is the fourth class in the mark-making series. We’ll delve into using fabric substrate (a repurposed item) as the background for our mark-making. Using a medium other than art canvas or paper introduces new textures to our pieces, adding interest and unique qualities. We’ll explore creating marks on fabric, as well as using repurposed items as tools to make those marks.
Class includes examples of re-using bottles, caps, and packaging as ways to create repetitive strokes, marks, and dabs in our artwork. We’ll gather various objects and supplies that will be used to create intriguing imprints in our paintings. The demo uses acrylic paint on fabric, but feel free to explore other media and substrate.
The challenge is two-fold: use repurposed items in your art and create an abstract piece. This prompt is an open-ended challenge, designed to offer additional experience practicing abstract art.
