Organizational leaders are nothing more than problem solvers and decision-makers. That said, in developing problem-solving and decision-making skills in a learning organization is one of the most important challenges for leaders in the modern workplace. A learning organization is one that encourages continuous learning and development among its employees and is able to foster an environment of openness and trust, and to provide employees with the tools and resources they need. Leaders must also create an organizational culture that supports learning and encourages employees to take risks. Thus, we encounter problems constantly throughout our lives and the need to solve problems and make decisions starts early in one's career. The problem we face will grow in complexity as we mature, but it is important to keep in mind that problem-solving and decision making is not a single skill. Instead, it is a way of thinking. A person who has developed good problem-solving and decision-making skills knows how to apply critical thinking and planning to shape their environment and make things happen.
