To: The Computer Students: We are glad you are here. Kalawantis Training Institute Certificate Program
What will you learn in this live class?
The purpose of this course is for students to have first-hand information about computers and the necessary applications used to manipulate computers. Reading any computer-related materials alone will not give the student a complete understanding of computers. No computer book by itself ever will do that. Your reading has to be supplemented by actual classroom work, or some level of interaction with the computer. Remember, learning computers is easier when hands-on. The Professor strongly recommends real classroom lessons. That's why we are very, very happy you are here today.
This is a four-week course. Each Class section is two hours long, once a week. Students must know that while learning computers can be fun and rewarding, you have to always be engaging with the computer in order to understand it. Computers are interactively driven by commands, and computers are best learned when hands-on. Additionally, we know that learning computers can be intimidating sometimes, but don't worry. Our simple way of presenting the materials will make you feel comfortable within our learning environment. Trust me, you will learn quickly and have fun at the same time.
The booklet we are using contains five chapters. Chapter one is an Introduction to Computers. In this chapter, students will learn the basics of computers. This is an overall view of the computer system, including the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and its functions, and the Input/Output (I/O) units of the computer. Word processing is also introduced. Microsoft Word (MS Word), with its many menus, is taught in detail as we get into chapters two and three. On day one, students will learn and know the major difference between Word Processing and MS Word. Students who have elected to learn MS Word will have the opportunity to learn the software very well and find out how fun it is to use the application.
Typing is also a very essential skill that goes along with word processing, especially if the student intends to be a secretary or an administrative assistant, or if the student does some level of office work that involves typing.
In chapter four, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher are introduced and briefly discussed. However, these three courses are separate and not included under the Introduction To Computer Track. They each stand alone and are taught in detail separately. Students who are interested in any of these courses are given a reduced tuition rate.
In chapter five, Internet lessons, including Email and Web Browsing, are presented. The Internet affects the daily lives of many, many people in the world today. So why not touch on it here?
