The electromagnetic and visible spectrum. Electromagnetic waves are waves that are capable of traveling through an empty space. Unlike mechanical waves that require a medium in order to transport their energy, electromagnetic waves are capable of transporting energy through endless time and distance. This is easily related to the stars we see shining from galaxies far beyond our time understanding. Electromagnetic light waves exist with an enormous range of frequencies. This continuous range of frequencies is referred to as the electric magnetic spectrum.
The entire range of the spectrum is often broken into Scientific regions. Although we can only see the visible spectrum, the subdividing of the entire spectrum into the smaller spectra is done mostly on the basis of how each region of electric magnetic waves interact with matter. In the case of design, we should not only consider the visible but also the harmful electric magnetic waves beyond the visible spectrum. The diagram shown in this lecture that picks the electric magnetic spectrum and its various regions. The longer wavelengths and lower frequency regions are located on the far left of the spectrum. And the shorter wavelengths with higher frequency regions are on the far right.
Just as a red is higher frequency than that of a blue or a violet Though we are unable to see lies beyond the visible spectrum, we should clearly understand where the visible spectrum falls and just how little of the universe we really can see, speculating that we will see less than 10% of the reality of the world we live in. so too does the design spectrum beyond our visible understanding
