We just finished up the last section, which was regarding language resources. So if you have any questions about that, take a look at the previous section. That's specifically for English as a second language learners, but it's useful for everybody. This section, we're going to look at our media platforms. And again, this is a way to have additional resources and practice, which you can customize according to your area of interest, your area, business, your hobbies, anything like that. So you can choose the media that you're going to follow, and the kind of information that you want to be learning.

So in this section, we're going to first look at newspapers and publications. It's a good idea to follow published, work published articles, etc. Because they're usually reworked by an editor. They are free of grammatical errors or any other kinds of errors. So you want to be working with material which is high quality and which has great grammar and great Structure etc. So that's why you do want to be taking a look at published media.

So newspapers and publications beyond that we will look at a video, video and educational platforms, you want to also be watching videos, which is important. We'll look at social media and entertainment sources and how to work in information and business English learning when you're scrolling through your social pages. Alright, and other than that, we're also going to look at podcasts and audio formats, and listening to daily news or events or anything like that informational podcasts etc. And even following your newspapers and publications in an audio format. So when you're in the car, when you're, I don't know, making dinner when you're vacuuming, whatever it might be that you are doing when you're jogging when you're exercising. It's a great idea to be listening to information.

And this is both to boost your education and also So your use of language. So other than this, we're also looking at TV, news, movies, documentaries, and different sources to be able to work on language skills when you're watching television. So basically all the media formats. Alright, so let's go ahead and get going. I wanted to mention too, that we're looking at, again, the best media sources. And these are the best on the market and in terms of quality of information.

So both for news and entertainment. So and these are, of course, selected based on the excellent language that they use and the quality of information. So that's why we want to be sure that we're using reliable sources. All right. So let's take a look at some of these media platforms which you can use the number one, newspaper and publication out there is the economist. Now, you may or may not be familiar with this publication.

You can find it at newsstands throughout the world. Of course, there's the website, you get free Access to three published articles per week. It's a weekly magazine. So it's published around between Monday and Wednesday every week. Every country gets it at a different point in the week. I think it's usually available on a Wednesday, sometimes it's a Friday, it depends on your area of where you live.

So the print version is kind of nice because you know any longer we look at screens a lot. So if you have an actual magazine in hand, it gives you kind of that other multimedia sort of material, which is nice to work into learning. So the websites great too, they do have a newsletter, they've got a lot of free content, but really the best content on the economist is the paid content, subscribe for that. The the three free articles per week, I think you get like a month free subscription as well. So look into that because it's really a great source of media. Also the quality of information really, really excellent.

And for language, it's phenomenal for language for vocabulary for everything else. All right. Another one is Business Insider. This is a pretty good one. They have a great page. They've got good newsletter, you can watch videos.

It's a multimedia platform, but they do have pretty good quality of information and language. Other than that, we've got the guardian. This is a UK published publication, which has great news, great information, and of course, good language as well. Then we've got financial times this is looking at financial markets. It's a little bit more North American geared. It's got slightly more American language in it, but it's very, very good in terms of quality of information.

Again, then we've got the Wall Street Journal, similar to financial times, different style of writing, but again, a great way to have high level of information and language quality. Then we've got CNN, CNN, of course has The TV version is well they do video formats. They're another multimedia source. And they're quite good. BBC. That's the British version of CNN, basically.

So we're looking at Daily News. We're looking at World News, global events, these sorts of things, both local and international. Then we've got Forbes. Forbes is a great publication as well, slightly more on the entertainment side, but some very high quality articles in there as well. And then Reuters, which is basically a it's kind of like a news source from all over the world. It's tied to financial news.

So you get a lot of press releases, through companies, etc. And it's very high quality as well. So Reuters is a great one. Alright, so beyond that, we're going to look at our media platforms for video formats. One thing that I wanted to mention about these is we want to be watching video in order to get the subtleties of the communications so you can see the person talking For example in in a video format, and sometimes you can have subtitles as well, which are helpful. English language subtitles are best if you want to work with subtitles.

And then you can also have your subtitles translated into your native language. So that's also another option for this. Of course, there's the audio aspect of video formats. And then there's the visual format as well, which are both very helpful in learning. So one of the format's which I would like you to bookmark and use. So this is a great format for education.

And it's got both the subtitles and the video format. You can also download the text of this. So this one is called Ted. And Ted stands for technology entertainment design. The website is www.ted.com. And you also have the app available.

There's a little symbol for the app so you can find that on different app stores. Now Ted is Great, great platform for education. It's very, very interesting. And actually, their logo is ideas worth sharing. And it's true, they have great professional, and it's very, very high quality information. They're usually experts or area of interest.

And they're presenting these breakthrough technologies or ideas, which are very, very pertinent to our day and time and what's happening and the direction that the world will go. So it's very, it's a very good platform to follow as well. So some of the features of this website and also the app. It's a presentation format with very, very clear speech and it's easy to follow. Then we have the fact that it's various video links. You can choose a video to watch, which is only five minutes long, two minutes long, one minute, you can watch a video that's 20 minutes long.

It depends on how long you have how much time you have available. To do this activity, the other thing you can do is you have subtitles both in Italian, English, French, whatever your native languages, not all subtitles are available. But that's improving because any longer they're using different translator options such as like Google. So you can, you can translate it into any language transcripts are available to download. And this is nice because if you watch the video, and you're understanding most of it, but there's a few areas that you didn't understand you didn't catch. You can read the article format.

So read the transcript word by word, and find those passages which you didn't understand. So maybe it's a vocabulary and expression. So you can see it in a written format. And then you can go to translate that use your resources to understand what that is and whether it be Google Translate word references, or even urban dictionary for example, if it's a little bit more of a slang expression, and that way you can understand 100% of the content Which is the goal? Alright, so beyond Ted and again bookmark that I use that site, it's great insiders, a good one, there's tech Insider, Business Insider, etc. So this is a good format, they do videos, a lot of the times this is a good source of information, YouTube, of course, YouTube, everybody knows YouTube pretty much I mean, there's a lot of information on there.

The only issue with YouTube is you're not certain that you're getting good quality information or quality language. So be careful with YouTube because you will be able to pick up a lot of slang, English or particular expressions or you know, very local language, but it's not necessarily correct English and it's definitely not correct Business English. So, it is a source you can find good information but usually you want to follow channels on YouTube which are verifiable so you know, for example, the The Economist channel on YouTube or Ted channel on YouTube. So be sure you're following sources that are actually, you could say quality and verified, okay. Other than YouTube, we also have other news media outlets. And as I was saying the other page that we looked at with those news media, so newspapers and publications, follow these pages and watch the videos on these pages, because of course, any longer you've got multimedia resources, so you've got articles to read, you've got videos to watch, you've got podcasts or audio files to listen to.

So that's a good idea. And then we also have, of course, social media content. So again, same thing you want to verify the quality of language. So you want to follow pages that are of high quality. So usually you want to be working with professionals that have editors that review their, you could say articles or their posts before they post them so the quality is good. And that's about all for that now social media.

It can actually be a really nice way to have information on a daily basis, because if you like the right pages, then they will show up in your news feeds. And you can read articles, more easily choose articles that are there available at the moment. And it's a good way to work English into your daily routine. All right. So, again, with these media platforms, the the ones that I recommend the most is Ted, okay, and go to this link, you can download the app from all the app stores. It's a great resource for learning.

So this is the number one, one to use. You can use any of these, but I definitely recommend Ted. And then YouTube is a good source as well. Of course, there's the app. There's the website, YouTube, again, if you're going to use YouTube, make sure that you're following channels, you're subscribing to channels, which are high quality. All right, so some of the ones that we mentioned in the previous slides.

All right, so that's It for video formats, you will find this information on the website as well. I'm going to put some links to different sources etc. So you can have easy access to these social media. Now, as I was saying social media is a good way to have news delivered to you on a daily basis, so you can access lots of good videos and articles. These are the top 16 social media platforms from 2018. So Facebook, we all know YouTube is great, Twitter's a good one.

LinkedIn is I definitely recommend LinkedIn. LinkedIn is actually one of the better ones for business English usage because you have high quality articles that are related to business in particular. So I definitely recommend if any following LinkedIn, Facebook is quite good as well. They all have their advantages. They all have areas which are more interesting, but in terms of information, art, Cole's excetera LinkedIn and Facebook are the two that are the most relevant. Then of course, there's Pinterest, which is nice.

So here's the list. If you want to check any of those out, make sure that you take a quick, take quick notes of them and go check them out. And let's go ahead to the next choose a couple of these social media sites to follow. And once you are using these, then you also want to sign up if you haven't, you want to choose a couple to follow. Again, I recommend Facebook and LinkedIn for information sources. After that, if you haven't signed up, you want to sign up.

Twitter's another good one for articles and information. then beyond that, follow pages and input information sources which are relevant to business English that are relevant to your interests, your area of business, etc. All right, so I definitely recommend that very highly. The tip which I spoke about before is to follow News, current events and special interest pages in English, of course, to receive continuous articles, videos and info into your feeds. All right, great, great, great. Let's look at audio formats, audio formats of our, for example podcasts, which we'll take a look at, you've got digital radio, you've got audio files, etc.

So listening to audio is learning where, for example, optimizing your time is, is a great way to use audio files. When you're in your car, when you're exercising when you're doing random chores at home, when you're in your office and taking a break, etc, etc. It's another form of learning. So definitely pay attention to when you can use audio files when you can listen to digital radio, for example. I don't know if you use Google Home or Amazon Alexa, etc. But there is the format where you can ask your device to read you the news.

And you can also sign up to news pages and you can listen to those in an audio format. So this is a great idea. I wanted to show you really quickly here for podcasts. So these are some of the pages for podcasts. Apple has Apple podcast, which you can download on Apple devices. Google has Google podcasts, okay, which this is the the symbol for that.

And this way you can like or follow the different podcasts and just listen to them on your phone. It also helps you source different news resources that have this option available. Here's a couple from Microsoft. You can choose the different podcasts that seem interesting to you. On the BBC. We've got all of these available that are recommended.

So there's really any subject you could possibly imagine available on these podcasts. So take a look at those if you're not familiar, it's a really great resource. Once you get used to using these podcasts and listening to the audio, you can do it in the background. You don't necessarily have to be 100% concentrated on the language, but it's a way of subliminal learning. So you're listening to the accent, the musicality of the language. And it does help you to pick up little cues that otherwise you wouldn't have access to.

This is the way children learn, for example, where they're listening to language and it comes it comes more naturally. So when you can sit and actually listen to what you're following to these audio files to these podcasts, try to concentrate on the language on the content on what they're speaking about, you know, take notes, a new language, you can go and look up dictionary.com to define new vocabulary, etc. But it's a great way to be learning. Alright, so the next area here is teaching We love TV, movies, TV series documentaries. There are lots of sources available for learning in a TV format. Today we have a couple different cable TV or digital programs that are available which really help in language learning, especially if you're an English as a second language learner, you want to be able to source movies etc.

And be able to watch them in English and even with subtitles, so I'm going to show you what we have available here. Okay, so let's take a look at a couple good sources for watching TV in English and more you can choose between different languages This is also good if you're interested in learning additional languages once you learn how to learn a language then you might want to start on third link before thing which these are really good sources. Netflix of course is available on any smart TV Amazon as well. Sky is a patron for digital service. So what is great about these is you've got language options. on Netflix, I'm going to show you if you use Netflix and even on the website as well, you can choose what language you want to watch in.

So of course, we're going to be watching in English with subtitles. If you need subtitles in English great or you can do subtitles in your native language, that's no problem. But no matter what country you're in, if you have Netflix or Amazon or even sky, you can choose English instead of the language that these are usually in. So if we look at the remote control of Netflix, you've got a little button that says audio. And where it says audio, you push that and you can choose which language you want to watch in. If you're watching sky, it's the yellow button on Sky and you can choose which language option but again, when you're watching TV, watching English or choose documentaries that are again, relevant to you Your area of interest, your business, your hobbies, whatever it might be your sector.

If you're watching documentaries, you know, there's a lot of good information there, it's usually more factual. And usually there's a narrator who's speaking so it's easier to understand what you're listening to basically, with TV series, same thing, you can choose something that's interesting to you, but watch it in English. You know, again, you're going to have more access to everyday language, you know, slang and expressions etc. And it can be challenging but it's find one that you like in particular and watch it, watch it on a regular basis, spend 30 minutes a day, or 30 minutes every couple of days, and watch one show or a part of it movie or whatever it might be. And again, in English, that's the challenge. You'll find different accents, you'll have access to lots of different subjects and areas of interest.

So this is a great way to be working English into your everyday routine. Alright, So, the final thing we're going to look at here is our textbook. And this is a nice way to have a quick reference for business English. This is one of the best publishers out there. This is one of the best grammar structures available today. And again, the language and vocabulary here is his high level Business English.

So this is a great way to have a quick reference for your grammar and to have exercises in practice. And this is specifically grammar practice. So it's a great resource and I highly recommend it. This book is again called business grammar and practice. It's the new edition. And although it's not extremely new, it's still very, very relevant.

So the publishers Oxford Business English and the writer and editors of Michel Duckworth, I will have this available on the website on business English for professionals calm right here. So stay posted for that. I'm also going to I'll give you the links etc for that you can usually find this in different places but I'll give you some ways to access it through the website. So the other thing I was going to mention is so on the website at www dot business hyphen English Ivan for Ivan professionals comm check the resources page, and I will be sure that you have all of the resources available all if I can get any coupon codes, I'll put them on there for you. If I can get you any free trials, I'll put them on there. And this is for any of your media sources.

Any of your you know, for example, like Netflix or Amazon Video, so I'll see what kind of deals I can get you. I believe in best price quality out there. I like free trials. I like to get coupons and deals. So I will look for those and I'll make sure to pass them on to you through the website at businesses for professionals calm so stay tuned on that page. If that could be interesting to you.

Alright, so that's about all for the moment. This is sketchy with business English for professionals. So that's about all for the moment. Thank you for joining us for this lesson of business English for professionals. I can't wait to get going with the next Have a good one and see you soon.
