The first thing you should do now you finish this course is to prepare your own interview skills balance sheet. What are your interview skills, fixed assets? What are your emerging current assets? And what about your constraints, those long term liabilities, and your social capital your shareholders funds. And remember, plan your interview. Match the requirements of the job against your interview skills balance sheet, and prepare your inventory of projects and experience ready to discuss it in the most positive light.
Rehearse both motivational and situational questions and prepare for that inevitable. What is your greatest weakness question? My advice for that is to share a problem or mistake, though perhaps not a catastrophic mistake and show how you've learned from it. For example, in the past, I've struggled with being given projects where the objectives weren't clear, but I was too nervous to ask for clarification, I've learned to be more upfront about it, to go away and consider the likely objectives of the project and who the stakeholders are. And then to go back to my boss to confirm whether I've got it straight. My bosses have actually appreciated this opportunity to review the project objectives in the context of the stakeholders, and have always come out of the meeting, feeling more confident about the project and with a clearer view of its aims, and who should be involved or consulted.
I think my bosses have also benefited from thinking it through a bit more. Certainly, the desired outcomes and deliverables have evolved during these discussions. Plan your travel to the interview thoroughly. If you don't get there on time. Then you're in bother and prepare a friendly opening statement and some closing questions. And most of all, Get excited about working there.
If you can't sum up excitement about the role of the organization, then maybe it isn't for you. Thank you for taking this course. I hope you found it interesting and useful. And I hope that it will help you prepare for your next big move on to find that dream job. Start working on your interview skills balance sheet right now, and prepare for those interviews. Good luck.
