It is now time to put all your resources and support team in place
Up until this point you will have been getting all your jumbled, or what you thought were irrelevant, records in an easy-to-find format. And you will hopefully have settled on the medical doctor you are happy conferring with. This now puts you in the optimal position to be ready to put in place the other professionals who will make up your team.
I hope you have taken on board the benefits of finding an advocate you can relate to, at least during the early part of your caring journey. Remember an advocate can be anyone whom you feel comfortable with and who has the ability to take some notes, debrief after any meetings, and importantly has the confidence to help out with asking the questions you have discussed together before the meeting. For a complete understanding of the role of an Advocate, and who you can ask, see my blog

Once you have your support people and resources in place, you may find you no longer need an advocate. Your confidence and knowledge will have grown to the point that dealing with the singular change of finding a new physiotherapist, for example, is no longer difficult for you. Most of your team will be in place, they will understand your appreciation of their ideas and feedback, and you will be comfortable in putting your ideas forward knowing they are happy to be working with someone who is taking a positive lead.
As you become more confident in speaking to professionals and more aware of the needs of the person you care for, your personal support needs will alter. This is an ever-changing situation that calls for adaptation, not regimentation. Nothing has to remain the same. It is totally within your power to choose the makeup of your team and when changes should be made.
Every member has ideas relevant to their expertise which become part of the whole if your team is working together
