Hey guys, welcome back to the healthy workstation. And this section is called program basics. And it's all about giving you a preview of the course content so that you know what to expect and what we're going to work on. The courses are arranged in a number of specific sections and each will explain a critical concept and teach you how you can apply it for maximum effectiveness in employing ergonomics to make your workstation more healthy and just get some amazing phenomenal, fantastic results as you go through your day. We're going to look at a number of specific topics and they are the following. They are health, posture, sitting, standing, movement and workflow, we're going to go through each of these sections, providing information and explanation, and also techniques, tips and suggestions that you can apply for great success.
With health. Really, we're going to look at health as not just the absence of illness and pain, but just the highest levels of function of which we are capable. We will understand how to create maximum comfort, maximum effectiveness, and productivity at our workstations. We'll learn about the control of inflammation, and how to maintain optimal circulation and metabolic function within our bodies. Next up, we'll discuss posture and with posture, we're going to recognize that it does reflect our attitude towards life. And we will learn how to optimize alignment with simple adjustments.
This will enable us to limit Almost all pain and fatigue, which happens throughout the workday. And we'll set up our body positions to drive our work tasks, as opposed to having our work pull our bodies into uncomfortable positions. Very simple, very easy to do. Next up, we'll take a look at sitting and we're sitting will look in particular at the concept of is sitting the new smoking boy answer that question. We'll also explore how there's so many varieties of chairs and stools and balls and other products that you can use for sitting and how to set those up. We'll take a look at what is an optimal fit of the worker or of the workstation to the worker and it's very, very important with a sitting workstation.
We'll take a look at the value of intermittent sitting as opposed to chronic sitting and we'll also look at some terms like dynamic versus static and active versus passive, then when we get to standing will know all the varieties and possibilities that exist with standing workstations will give some consideration to the surface upon which we're standing and discuss a few basic movement strategies which helped to keep the circulation flowing and the oxygen rich in our tissues. And finally, we're standing we'll take a look at the environment and how we set up the standing workstation, particularly with respect to location, as well as lighting. Then we get into a topic that's near and dear to my heart, which is movement and we'll try to understand first of all that movement is an umbrella under which we have two different types of movement and that is activity or general daily activity, those those things we do that aren't specific exercise that being the other category.
So we'll look at activity activities which we can do at the workstation and also exercises which we can do in terms of basic conditioning to to train for work and increase our fitness for our specific work, as well as simple exercises that can be performed at the workstation throughout the day to enhance comfort, and efficiency. Finally, we'll take a look at workflow and workflow is one of those unique topics where there are so many wonderful things we can employ. This includes mono tasking or the avoidance of multitasking, we'll look at how mindfulness can come into play at work, we'll take a closer examination of interval ization or creating an interval based or blocked chunked workflow, and also how communication and collaboration can be powerful enhancers of our health in the workplace. Each lesson is going to be clear, straightforward, simple and easy to utilize, will create an understanding A knowledge and a power helps you to have a healthy workstation and really employer can make your job work for your health.
