Now that we've saved our file, we can go ahead and close it out. Whenever you close it paint, some will automatically open a new document. And we'll go ahead and resize that just like we did last time. Okay, so we're gonna go ahead and talk about using the mirror option. So if we have our brush tool selected, then you'll see these icons at the top, we can select the one that looks like these two triangles facing each other. And that pulls up the mirror guides.

You'll see at the top that there is a nice Have mirrors that you can choose and a number of duplication, the number of mirrors right now can go all the way up to 10. And duplication can go up to four, that's probably what yours is set at. Also, if you decided that you wanted to change that, you could go to File options, go to performance, and you can change the maximum number of mirrors and the maximum duplications for mirrors. You can go all the way up to 100 with mirrors and all the way up to tend for duplications. But I wouldn't necessarily recommend going higher than the 10 and the four because it can really slow down performance, especially if you're working on an older iPad. Okay, so I'm just going to leave mine as is.

I have my number of mirrors set to four and I'm going to Go ahead and increase my duplication all the way to four so that you can see how it works. So I'm going to choose black for my brush and I'll keep the same brush that I was using before. I recommend for you to play around with the different brushes so you can see you know how they work and see which ones you like. Okay, so I'm going to draw one big loop. So what you see happens is I end up with a total of five strokes. So the big outside one is the one that I drew and then it duplicated it 1234 times within that loop at a smaller scale.

Okay, so I'm gonna go ahead and bring my duplication all the way back down to zero and undo what I just did. Actually, let me redo that so that I can show you how to clear a layer what they did. You don't really like it over here in your Layers panel, you can come down to it looks like a square with little stars coming out of it. If you click on that, it clears your layer. Okay, so then let's say that I drew something. And I don't really like part of it, I want to erase it.

I can use my eraser tool, but I do have to choose a brush from the eraser section. So I like the hard eraser. That's what I have selected. And I could just erase whatever I want to erase. Another thing I wanted to show you is that if you have something that you want to fill, and let's say it doesn't fill in all the way to the edges, you can see right there There's a little bit of a line left you can always increase the tolerance. And when you fill it will fill more of the area kind of close that in a little bit better.

Okay, so let me just go ahead and draw a little something. Okay, that's good enough therefore the center. While you cannot use seamless mode, as you're using the mirrors, you can still create a tile that works well for a seamless pattern by drawing up into the corners but not through the edge of the canvas. So let me go ahead and fill in the edges here. Okay, and then if I turn on seamless mode, you'll see that I do have a perfectly repeating pattern. And it looks a lot like traditional tiles.

So that is something you could still export and upload to a site where you, you can have seamless patterns. Let me pull my mirrors back up. If I decided that I wanted to draw somewhere else on the canvas, I can always move my mirror guides elsewhere and just draw whatever I wanted to in that section. I could move it again. Draw Something else. And if I wanted to go back to center, it might be kind of hard to manually reposition it, but appear at the top, you can always select the back arrow and it will bring your guides back to the previous states or you can move it back to where it was.

So that's it for this section. I am going to go ahead and include a time lapse of a basic surface pattern design and a time lapse of a mare design. And for your assignment, please go ahead and take a snapshot of how you have your interface set up. also create one surface pattern and one mere design. They don't have to be complex, something simple is just fine. Have fun with it, as you're learning to use it.
