Welcome to the video troubleshooting and maintenance. Before we get to that, let's talk about secondary measures. You will get to a point where adjusting the buffer size isn't enough even if you go up to 1024. If you're on Ableton, it goes up higher, you'll find that you still are having problems processing or sound. If that's the case, this is when you want to work with processing threads. And you might want to work with the process buffer range as well.

This is my final resort, when I'm not sure what else to do. And I also have some alternative options for you as well. But the processing threads option has to do with the cores in your computer. You want to use as many cores as you have available to you. If you don't know go up here to About This Mac, then go to System report. And right up here, you'll find total number of cores.

For. Again, this course is good for you, if you have a desktop or a laptop, if you have a laptop, it's a little more relevant as we don't have the processing power that a desktop usually has. For example, I have a nice seven here, which is pretty good, but you can get a lot more on a desktop. So going back to processing threads, I usually leave it on automatic. If this doesn't seem to be holding up, then I'll go to eight. And what's happening here is that when you're dealing with CPU spikes, this can help you distribute the load among two channel strips instead of one.

Try it out. I hope it works for you. It's done wonders for me. Let's move on to the next concept. This I call use different projects for different tasks. If I'm going to start tuning a vocal or fine tuning it, really getting it to, to sit in the mix.

I'm not necessarily going to do that inside of the same project that I'm currently writing the song in. So here is the song that I'm currently working on. I'll play you a little bit. Okay, you can see I'm having problems. So if I change the processing threats, let's see if this helps at all. So you can see making that one adjustment, made a big difference Anyhow, back to what I was saying if I was going to create a different project alternative or a different project, so I could tune my vocals and perhaps work out the timing of the vocals, I would take the song, I would bounce it out.

Make sure there's no effects on the master channel. So I would bounce it out here I just have gain to compensate for for volume because the song is really loud. So if I hit bounce, and then I send this to my desktop, and I'll just re hear music. hit Command D to access your desktop. We now have the finished music on a separate WAV file. I can create a separate project a separate project alternative.

And I can save myself all of the power that I've been using accessing plugins and using various sends This technique will absolutely help you. I also recommend and I'm stressing that you really should have individual track regions instead of having a bunch of edits. And I'll show you that in a second once this processes but it's better to have one long consolidated file than it is to have various small regions in a track. For example, I've I've done my best to keep all of these consolidated into one file, the song is still being finished and I need the artist approval. So there's certain things I don't want to delete just yet but you can see my example here. So once you have the file, on the desktop, you create a project alternative.

Okay, once you do that, you delete all of the music and then You just drag this file in, and then you can start working on your vocals. This also applies to going from the composition phase to the mixing phase and then going from the mixing phase to the mastering phase. Okay, let's talk about troubleshooting and maintenance. If you're having problems and you're not quite sure how to fix them, you might want to access Activity Monitor. Now, this is a free program and it's really great because you can see in real time what's taking the most energy, the current moment Logic Pro is taking 20% of my computer's resources. If we take a look around, we can see there are other programs here that are also taking some energy.

Now, I highly advise you if you don't know what something is, please do not delete it. Please do not take it away. Do the proper research to make sure your computer works the way it needs to I just want to make you aware that this is a great resource that you can use to help you with your your CPU. It's also very important to talk about airflow. In a perfect situation, you want to have your laptop elevated, so there's airflow, I highly recommend you pick something up like this stand that raises up your laptop, so you can have even airflow all across. If you have a desktop, same thing, don't just put it off in a corner somewhere where you're not able to generate new air.

Otherwise it's just going to gather heat in some type of corner. This especially applies if it's next to the heater or next to a bunch of other machinery. Just be aware of the fact that airflow is a big player in how your computer performs. Something else to consider is d dusting your map fans. If you do some research on this, you'll find that again, it's very helpful in the overall performance of your computer. I have a local guy who did this for me and he charged me $30 per laptop.

Highly recommended, I've noticed a great shift in performance for myself. Some other things to consider are upgrading to an SSD. If there's one single thing that has made the most impact. For my productions, it's upgrading all of my computers to an SSD. This one move has greatly elevated my productions as I no longer have to seriously consider which plugins to use, how to use them, bouncing files, etc, etc. If you can upgrade to SSD and upgrade your RAM as well as that can also be very beneficial for your computer, desktop and laptop performance.

Let's finish off here with two more things if you do not currently need an update. In other words, if everything is performing well, if you find everything working the way it needs to, all your key commands are working any Bluetooth acessories if you use them, your MIDI controllers are working perfectly, any hardware controllers are working perfectly. Please do not update your software, do not update to the latest iOS. If you do so you are greatly compromising the current ecosystem that is your computer. See all of these programs they talk to each other. And if you start to add new elements, if you start to add new languages to the software, all of a sudden things might not be able to communicate as they once did before.

So if you Don't need to update your software or an OS, please do not do so. Now I understand you may need to do that if you want a new feature if there's a new plugin that is not compatible with an older version of the iOS. But that being said, it's very critical that you understand if you do change something, perhaps something may go wrong. So unless you absolutely have to do not update your software, or OS system. Okay, the last thing to mention again, I don't want to drive this home too much, but this program really is exceptional. It's got a feature your call optimization, where you're able to seriously look at all of the login items that your computer currently has.

Now, I didn't know that my computer even did this until I picked up this amazing software. If you really want to get into the nitty gritty of To understand what's happening underneath the hood of your program, I highly advise you pick this up. They're currently under a subscription model and the paid service. So check them out clean my Mac x. Also, you can update programs from here. If you have any extensions on your program that you currently don't use anymore.

You can delete from here as well. I love this program. I'm a big fan. Lastly, if you guys don't know about Gemini, I do want to advise you at least take a look at it. It finds similar files, not just duplicates. Let me give you an example.

If I drag in, let's say, a session or even a hard drive for that matter. It's gonna scan the entire profile and let you know if you have any duplicates. Well let's let's see the results here. In the case of this program, it looks like I have this file twice, this one twice, and these other two as well. So obviously, that's small potatoes. But when we start talking about the entire hard drive, it really turns into gigabytes.

Very quickly. Check out this program Gemini to keep your computer clean and organized. Well, that's it for me. I just wanted to say thank you very much for watching. I hope you enjoyed this report on maximizing your desktop and laptops performance. This is Eddie gray signing off.

Have a great day. Have a great week. Have a great month and a great year. Thank you
