Lesson four, three steps to Team culture change. So there's three steps to culture change I'm going to use throughout all of these culture change courses. The first step is to identify the culture you need and why. Second step, identify the behavior that will create the culture. And third step, identify what you need to do to influence that behavior. So let's take the first step first.
Identify the culture you need and why. So how do you know what culture you need? Now, I'm presuming you've bought this course because you have something in mind that you want to change. But let's just think about what sort of culture change you might need and why you might need it. So ask some basic questions. Firstly, what am I measured on?
As a supervisor? As a first line manager, and middle manager? What am I measured on? What do I get rewarded for? What do I get into trouble for? What are the company values?
What does the business care about? What other businesses goals and plans? And last but definitely not least, look inside yourself and think, what matters to me? What sort of culture do I want in my team? So if you ask yourself those questions, you'll start to identify possible culture change requirements. So if you're measured a lot on the way that the customer feedback, for instance, then you might be thinking I need a culture of customer service and customer care.
If you're measured on Accidents and incidents, then you might be thinking, Well, one of the cultural changes I definitely need is that we have a safety culture. If the business really cares about something, if it's part of their company ethos and their values, then maybe that's something to consider for your culture. Maybe it's about going the extra mile or doing the best you can. Okay, maybe that's the cultural change you're looking for. So you're really looking to take some lead from the business, but also from your own beliefs about what's right or wrong. You're thinking about what sort of culture Do I really wanted my team, only to do a little bit of work on this.
Do an exercise, download the watts culture sheet and jot down your answers to each question from the previous slide. Those questions are on the sheet. So download the sheets. Pause this video for a moment and work through those questions and see if you can identify some To change needs that you have within your team.
