Okay, so a little bit of lighter topic mostly about food and safety and how to stay alive in general. I've been in this situation when I stayed on an organic farm volunteering in the middle of Honduras. And I thought our great organic farm I will have all the fruits and vegetables to eat but it turned out it wasn't season. So it was nothing to eat. I had to eat the same three ingredients every single day for breakfast for lunch and for dinner. And my body was resisting it.
It was telling me to leave because I wasn't getting the nutrition that I need. So sometimes it's difficult to keep the diet but if you're unsure what are the foods available, do research do the planning on that, but for me, it was only the the meat that I was trying to avoid. So it was relatively easy. And yet I still accounter difficulty I had a completely different experience. So Basically when I traveled for what a year, I gained a few kilos Well, a lot. And I think that is because I was food for me is very important.
And when you travel to certain different countries, you want to try everything. You also need to be aware that by doing that you risk yourself in a way. For instance, when I was traveling in Bolivia, I would have lunch at the markets, the local market where I would have the food that the local people were preparing, and that was somebody money. So peanut soup. That's the moment when I learned that my skin could not digest so many peanuts, so I got this terrible rash. For one, that's what enter and secondly, I gave another way because I just had a lot of alcohol.
I think almost every day in many poor countries, good quality and good nutrition is not available, so you eat whatever is provided, and combine it with alcohol. I gained a lot of weight to I think we both did. And it was very difficult even with exercise to keep it off. But then I just had to let it go. I was like, I am the size I am I am the shape I am. I have to accept it.
And then I get back into shape when I can afford to focus on that. But if I'm constantly worried and focused on the amount of calories and the quality of food that I'm eating, I stop enjoying the whole trip. So I decided I'm just gonna let it go. I eat whatever I find or what I fancy. And then I deal with this after the trip. Yeah.
And another part of the whole foods is that when you spend your time in hospitals, there is this tradition or this custom that you share nutrition. So you share vegetables, you share ingredients, you go grocery shopping together, and you cook together. I was always a big fan when I found French people in the hospital because we would wrap up These amazing meals for nothing. And we would also organize a lot of stories together where we were just asking people, hey, you know, let's cook something together or let's have a barbecue together, it's a great way to make new friends. It's a great way to shop economically. And it's a great way to have a variety of foods available that otherwise you could not afford, if you would do it by yourself.
And it's a great way to eat the nutrition that you've been craving, but you couldn't necessarily afford exactly like expensive wine in my case, or cheese. So because I was hitchhiking a lot, I always had to make sure that I have enough water and food on is this is something that I learned very fast that I always have to carry more than what I think I'm going to need, especially when hitchhiking because sometimes I arrived in the middle of nowhere and it still took me an hour, hour and a half to walk to someplace where I even find food or drinks. So if it's something that you are planning on doing, or even if you're just going to remote areas Yes, I would highly recommend to have enough food and water for the whole day and more, especially if you're in a in a very dry or a very hot country, you're going to drink more here in Europe, I drink a lot less than in certain areas where I traveled.
And then when I'm there for the first time, I didn't know what to expect. So now I'd rather bring an extra liter of water because it's best to have more than that. If you're unsure of of how much nutrition you're going to have available. Just take good quality food supplements with you and try to stay alive.
