Welcome back. And in this lesson, we're going to talk about how to animate our presentations has repeated in so many other lessons in this course, once again, this is one of those lessons more type features. However, animating your presentations is something I absolutely recommend you learn how to do. The reason we animate our slides is to control how content is brought onto the screen. If our visual aid is simple, say a pitcher of a rainbow, then fine bring the pitcher onto the screen all at once. However, many times, particularly in the business world, our slides are much more complicated than rainbows.

Let's start with this slide from the introduction. bulleted lists are very common slides to have in any PowerPoint presentation. I now have four bullet points that represent the framework of this course. If they appear all at once, my audience will read them all at once. And ideally, I want the world to appear as I'm speaking to them, and then dim or have them disappear when I move on to the next bullet point. To make this happen, we go to the animation menu in the ribbon, select the text box containing our bullet point and click on how we want the text to come onto the screen.

Once again, there are basically two choices that I regularly use and that is the appear and fade. Now once the text box has been set up for the animation, PowerPoint puts this little tiny numbered box beside each row to indicate the order of appearance. Here we have a bit of a problem because there's just a one beside the whole list, indicating that after our first click, all four bullets will appear at once, which is clearly not what we want. So we're going to have to tweak the effect options a bit. Now the easiest way to do As they click on the animation pane button, which brings up an animation pane on the right of our screen, then click on this little drop down arrow and select effect options. Inside here is where all the good stuff happens.

Let's first deal with our text animation problem by going to this tab. By selecting the group text drop down and selecting by first paragraph, you'll notice that we now have tiny numbered boxes one through four beside each of our bullets, that solves that problem. The next issue we want is to have the bullets dim after we speak to each one so that our audience stays with us throughout the slide. And to do this we once again open up our effect options box, and this time on the effect tab of this dialog box. Under after animation, we can select a color that we want to dim the text to When we click onto the next bullet also on this tab, you'll notice enhancements for sound and text animation. I know it's so tempting to play with your new toy now that you know where these features are hidden.

But just let me tell you, I never use these features, as they both tend to violate my lessons more rule. In the bonus lessons, we'll play with these a little more, because I know how tempting it is. Let's see how this all looks in presentation mode. only occasionally do I use other types of animation. For example, on an earlier slide, with the five things that drive us crazy, I use that flying from the left and a fly in from the right for the graphics on this slide. Let's work through another example using our conceptual graphic mock up in lesson seven.

This is somewhat of a busy graphics. So let's say I want to build it in five stages. To do this, use your CTRL button and select each of the objects you want to animate. First, we will use the appear animation because that's a nice, clean, professional and non distracting animation. We will repeat the process for stage two. Don't forget to pick up the first arrow, and then repeat it again.

For the third, fourth and fifth stages. Look at our animation pane and know how PowerPoint has grouped each of these objects together. You can drag and drop and use drop downs to alter your animations from this pane. Let's have a look and see what this looks like in presentation view. Wow, that looks pretty good. Now we've chunked up our entire conceptual model and fed it to our audience in bite sized chunks.

In this lesson, we covered three important points about animating your slides. First of all, animation keeps your visual aids in sync with your speaking points. Secondly, Animation breaks up the busier slides and parcels up the content into bite sized chunks. And finally, less is always more. Avoid sounds and distracting animation simply because it's been done and people have seen it before. In our final lesson, we're going to wrap it up and deliver our presentation.
