Hi, and welcome to my video course how to shoot football games like a pro. My name is john, I'm a professional sports videographer here in South Florida. And I've been doing High School and youth football games since 2004. And I'm really excited that you signed up under here for this course because over the next series of video modules, I'm going to show you the skills concepts and techniques to make you more adept with a camera and able to shoot football games better. Now, you may be an assistant coach or a player shooting games or practices for a high school football team. You may be a parent shooting for your child and hoping to get good footage for recruiting.
You might be a professional videographer looking to learn a different skill that could be marketable if you're shooting for other teams. But regardless, by the end of this course, you will be much better with a camera. So over the next bunch of modules, we're going to look at equipment we're going to look at how to set up we're going to look at actual game footage and analyze how to shoot runs, how to shoot passes, how to shoot special teams, like kickoffs, punts and even how to handle things like referees and when to shoot the scoreboard. So it's a comprehensive course from start to finish. And my hope is that by the time you finish it, you can show up to any game with any camera and do these games like a pro. Before we dive into the course, however, I would like to spend a moment to get you to know me a little bit so you know who the person is teaching you how to shoot football.
And I started back in 2004, I was teaching at a high school and I had my own video camera. And the high school football coach approached me and asked me if I would do one of his games. He paid me $50, which saved him from the $200 he was paying a professional and I went out and did the game and he was extremely pleased with it. So he hired me to do games for the rest of the season. Now Meanwhile, when you shot games back then the coaches would exchange tape with next week's opponent so they could scout each other. And what happened was the other teams coach would see that footage and asked my coach, hey, who does your games it looks terrific.
So I started getting calls from other schools to do their games. Now I can't be in more than one place every Friday. night to shoot a game. So I started hiring some freelancers. And I had to teach them how to shoot the games properly, so that the results could come out the same way as my footage. And so I taught several people the same concept I'm about to teach you.
And I've got people that are with me now for 10 years shooting games, just like I do. So that's my background. And it really helps me because I know what coaches want. I've dealt with hundreds of coaches. And I've seen footage from other people. I've seen parent footage and seen other businesses shoot games, and it's just not the same.
And coaches come back to me year after year because they know they're going to get a certain quality of footage. And that's what I'm going to teach in this course. Finally, for this section, the importance of good video. This may seem obvious, but I want to make sure we point out a few facts about why shooting is so important. Number one is the coaches. The coaches are depending on quality footage for breakdown and analysis.
They can watch their team and analyze individual players which helps them find key coaching points with individual players on the team. They also can look at their team's formations. plays and strategize for how they can attack their opponent. Also, other teams get copies of those games, they still do scouting of other opponents. And it's good to have quality footage so that you can see what's going on. So coaches find this to be a valuable tool, and many have told me that good video wins them games.
Now if you're a player, it also helps a player is looking for quality footage because they need it for college recruiting. Most potential college recruits need good video in order to send off to colleges. If the footage is shaky or too far away and you can't follow the action. It's not helping a recruit get noticed by a recruiter. So quality video helps the coaches and it helps the players. And finally there's also a viral aspect to these things.
We've shot several clips that have actually been good enough to go on ESPN. In fact, here's the play right here. This play was filmed by one of my shooters last year and it ended up the number one play on sports centers top 10 and it was picked up by CBS Sports, Fox Sports and a number of others. So the importance of good video cannot be understated. And that's why I feel this course is so valuable because you're going to learn how to shoot it. Well.
You're going to help the coaches, you're going to help the players and you might end up with something you can put on YouTube. So if you're ready, let's dive right in and start teaching how to shoot football. Like a pro.
