Dealing with the public. There's some key things with your home based studio you need to be thinking about, you need to be thinking about security. So if you're a female photographer, and a man's coming, you want to make sure someone's around while you're doing photography. And another tip for the gentleman to avoid any Miss mistaken ideas. If you're shooting a lady, make sure there's someone else around, preferably another lady, so that they can feel comfortable, they don't feel threatened and vulnerable. Use have to consider you bringing people back to your home.
So you have to think about that. So when you set up your home studio, if you can isolate as much from the rest of the house, that's always better. We've bought clients to our home into our studio for five years and we've never had an issue and I know lots of photographers do this as well. But you have to wire up for yourself, and you have to come to your own decision on in terms of security, what times are coming around, who's going to be there, how safe you feel, how safe they feel, things you need to think about, don't get overly stressed and worried. But just be aware and spend some time intelligently thinking about these issues. Now, one of the things that's really, really important, is 50% deposits.
Now, when you start taking your bookings, you're going to take bookings, people are gonna say they're going to come, and they're going to say they want to book and then they don't turn up and you don't get paid. And then that slot was there for someone else, and they couldn't take it. So what you want to do is very quickly move to a 50% deposit situation. We say it's 50% deposit on booking, and then the fine we'll take the images, we'll send you the proofs. Once you've approved them, and you're happy, you send us final payment, then we release the images to you now What that does, is that protects you from bad bookings. Because if someone's not serious, they won't pay the deposit.
And it also stops you chasing, they get the images when you get paid. Now, one of the ways to consider it the present this to people is traditionally, photographers who law license the images, that's disappearing more and more and more. What I'd recommend you do is not a license is released the copyright to the client. But reserving in the contract, make a note, you reserve the right to share those images to promote your business. And then when you say to people and I use this with corporate clients, it would normally be 30 6090 days, and I explain it this way. I have no problem getting the payment when I want it.
So what you're going to say to them is this. We've got our images, we're going to release them to you on coffee You're right. That means once you've released them, you own them. We no longer own them. So, before we release them, we have to have full payment. And that's gonna protect you from so much heartache.
I cannot recommend enough that you do this
