Okay, in this video we're going to start talking about past tenses. Okay, we talked a little bit about the present. Now let's talk a little bit but perhaps we'll start with the most common tense in English, which is the past simple okay? So how do you form the past simple, we have an irregular verbs, okay? There's a lot of a lot of regular verbs. Usually we add Edy to the end and of the verb, okay at the end of the verb.
So for example, you take work, I work and you add up and you say, I worked. Okay, I worked for Facebook, for example, or talk and then you add the D and then you have talked, okay? In the past simple, there are lots of irregular verbs and you need to learn these. There are lots of ways to learn these online, but some common ones will be see changes to saw in the past simple to changes to did go changes to went okay there are lots and lots of irregular verbs in the past simple and you just need to learn them and study them. And okay. And when you use the tense is for completed actions in the past so something that think about something that just happens and it's finished.
Okay something that happened yesterday for example and yesterday I went to the shops Okay, it's finished Okay, I'm not at the shops it happened yesterday. Yesterday is finished. Okay, good. So let's look at some examples. Now. I worked for Facebook, okay, and that that means I worked in the past, but now I don't work for Facebook in the president present.
Okay. And then we also have I saw the man, okay, just another example. And in the negative then we use the auxiliary didn't, okay? And then you use the infinitive here work. So I didn't work for Facebook, if you want to make this sentence negative, notice we don't use the end. Okay?
So here didn't is the auxiliary, the helping verb. It helps us to say okay, this is the past and the negative, okay? And then this example will be I didn't see the man. Okay. And the question then we have did as the auxiliary did you work for Facebook? Okay.
The shops example earlier. I went to the shops earlier. Okay, and let's put that here. I went to the shops yesterday. Okay, that's the past simple. And so what would be the question for that?
Sentence, did you and then you don't use the irregular now you use the infinitive, like work here. So what is the infinitive of lenti? It's go. Did you go to the shops? Yesterday? Okay, so the main idea of this is that things are completed.
Think about completed times, like last year, yesterday, five years ago. 2013. Okay, that's a long time. imago it's finished. Okay, so that's it for this video. We'll see you in the next one.
