In this lecture, we're going to focus on creating links, creating links to documents and directories, creating links to webpages, creating links to other OneNote pages, and then editing those links. The ability to create these various types of links within your notes gives you a great deal of flexibility in what you can accomplish with one note. For example, by creating links to documents and directories, you can set up your own document management system. I'll show you an example of one I've set up. This is a page I set up with various links to my documents and directories whether they're stored locally on my machine, or in my OneDrive. By setting up the links I don't have to remember exactly where the document is stored.

Once I set it up. However, you need to keep in mind that if you move a document, the directory link will break. So what I want to do now is I want to show you how to go ahead and set up directory links and document links. We'll go to a blank page. Now to start with, you can either type the link name, or you can just do the right click to get to the option. Let's do a right click to get to our option to create our link.

Once you do a right click, your options will come up and from here, what we want to do is we want to go to link. When you click on link, it's going to bring up the link dialog box. Within the text to display box is where you type the text that you want to display on the page. In the address box, you choose the location of the document. If you know the full path of the document, you can type it in. Otherwise, you can come over to the folder and browse for the document.

Once you've navigated to your document, you'll do a click on it. To highlight it and click the OK button. It's going to put the address for the document in the address field. At this point, you click OK. And it creates your link. You can also create a link to the directory that houses all your documents. So again, we're going to go to the link by do a right click, choose in the link option.

Type in the text to display. Go to the address area and navigate to the directory. Now instead of choosing a document, we're going to copy the path. So we're going to click on the path area and do a right click, choose Copy. we'll cancel out of this. We'll come to the address window and paste.

We'll say OK, and now it's pasted the directory. So if we click on here, it will take us out to that directory. Just like if we click on the link to the outlook guide. It's going to open up that document. You can also include links to webpages within your notes. do a right click again.

Go to the link option. Type in the text that's going to display when you're done Come down to the address, you're going to click on the globe with the magnifying glass so we can browse the web. From here, we'll type in the web address. Once you've gotten to the location, select the address, do a right click Copy, go back to OneNote and paste. say okay, now when we click on it, it's going to take us to that page. You can also just do a right click and copy and paste the link directly into the page.

But sometimes, depending on the web address, that can get a little confusing. For example, let's go back out to the web. I've done a Bing address map of Chicago Randolph Street. So here's the link. So if I copy this and paste it, that's a huge link and that doesn't really tell you where this link is. going to take you.

So if we come in, and we create our own link, do our right click, click link, come up to the text to display and type in what you need. Now we're just going to go to the web address page that we've got open and do a copy. And we're going to paste it in here. say, Okay, this one is much easier to understand and much easier to realize where you're going to be going to on the web when you click on it, although they both take you to the same place when it's just easier to work with. The third option I want to show you is how to create links to other OneNote pages. It starts out the same way we're going to do the right click, go to link, go to text to display and type in the title.

Now instead of putting something in the address field, we're going to go below that and pick a location in OneNote. So you'll navigate to the folder The page is click on it and click OK. Again, it creates the link. So all you need to do is click on it, and it will take you to that location. That's how easy it is to create the links. Now over time, you may need to edit your links. Very easy to do as well.

Right click on your link and click Edit link. Once you do that, it's going to open up the link dialog box and from here, you can change the name of the link or you can choose a different location for it. Change the name browse out to choose a different file location or different file. Click OK and it updates it. Click on the link and it opens the document. Remember to create a link, right click Select link.

Type in the text to display for your link. Navigate To the file or directory if it's a file or directory link, browse out to the web to choose the web page. Or if you've got the address already copied, pasted in. If you're going to location within OneNote, come down to the bottom half and choose the notebook and page you want to access. Links are edited by doing a right click on the link and choosing Edit link. In the next lecture, we'll start focusing on tagging our notes
