So how much does feedback really matter? I would argue that feedback is one of the most important factors for getting hired on Upwork. Similar to you buying something on Amazon, clients love to know how you have performed for previous clients, we're going to go over a few things that you can do to make sure that you get the best feedback possible, as well as the exact message that I like to send to clients to ask them for five star rating, we're even going to have a look at some of the Upwork profiles that have applied to some of my jobs that I was hiring for, and what their applications and their feedback says about that. So this is the formula that I use to ensure that I get good feedback, one, over perform over deliver on the work that you promise. So now I like to do is if I'm going to be doing a logo design, for example for clients, and they pay me for just one logo I like to do is I'd like to give them a choice of three Legos and they choose which one they like the most to reply, reply and grow.
Apply, the faster you can reply, the better clients always love fast replies, three, address all and every single concern that they might have along the road. You know what's going to happen in this job and better than they do. And if they have questions, it's time to explain what the process is, and bought asked for it. Don't be afraid to ask for good feedback. Otherwise, the client might forget to leave you feedback at all. If you've done the first three things here, then you should have no problem asking for good feedback.
This is why I say to ask clients to leave me a five star review once the job is completed. I've included this text in the cost description so you can just copy and paste it from a client name. It's been a great experience working with you. I just wanted to shoot you a quick message to make sure that you're happy with everything. If you are Would you be able to do me a huge favor when you end the contract and you please leave me a five star review and just a short sentence about the experience working with me on this project. It just enables me to keep working on up work and working on great projects.
Like this one. And that's it, I make it sound quick and easy and pretty much every time they say yes, and leave me a great review. So these are a few people who applied to a previous job of mine, it was to help me run some Facebook ads for a previous business. So here we get some really good information, we can see over here we can see what their job successes, we can see what Upwork deems them as a best match for us. We can see what their, what their offer is for them. We can see their location, we can see how much money they bounced on up work, and we can see a snippet of that cover letter.
So let's jump into this cover letter and see what we think. So if we start here, and we read his description, it starts great. He addressed me by name, he puts a smiley face and it's a it's a really nice start. And so we stopped reading and I've carefully gone through it subscription and would love to come over boards and assist your plant pots selling company with my best services. Your are not getting any sales from your existing Facebook ads campaigns, because you may have missed one of the essential points for successful Facebook ad campaigns. Now the reason it is a very good application is because obviously the English grammar is not it is incorrect, which is immediately putting me off as a client and I don't really want to communicate with somebody you can't communicate across to me, especially when the job consists of a communication element to a mainly English speaking audience.
So obviously, that's why this one isn't so good and why didn't end up hiring this person? Because I didn't think that English was was kind of good enough for this type of job. So it really goes to show just how important it is to have good English speaking skills. Read over your application a few times to make sure there aren't any errors there. Okay, so let's have a look here. rolled.
So this is a relatively good application, I personally don't really like how he dresses Hi, client, my name is there, it does show it's been, it would have taken two seconds just to add that in there. This after kind of reading through it, it reads like copy and paste job. I don't think there's much in there that related to what my job personally was. Which the first one, I don't think there's much in there that related to the job offering that I was hiring for. It's just a copy paste a cover letter, which is an immediate output for me, I like there to be some relevance to my job and, and to see some connections there to see if they've read the description of my job and just see that they are able to meet the demands of what I'm hiring for, which is why I always add questions when I'm hiring for a job so we can see at the very top, just up here to confirm you've read the job description.
Please state the budget that I've set for these ads, so they have to read the ad application to answer these questions. So on a resume strong application include some links to previous work, which is excellent, which we definitely want to be seeing that he asked me to share details, which are, I think that's, it's a good way to show that he's keen, but a little bit off putting to declined because I haven't chosen this path. And yet, I don't want to give him any information. I am looking for information from him. And then the bottom down here includes some images, some Excel documents is to staff and he's made them Facebook ads, so all know where on your project could be a lot better. It needs to be more personalized, if you ask me.
So we're gonna do we're gonna look at one more and we'll look at Christopher. So he got a best match badge, and he also has 100% job success, and looks like he's got a good amount is what's the number of jobs to have 100% on 18 job that's that's pretty impressive. So Christopher answers my questions here, which is really great. honest because I do ask if he has knowledge of indoor plants plots for interior design. And he does say that his plot knowledge is somewhat limited, but he's happy to learn. Again, he just went above and beyond to answer this question.
So here he says, Hi, I have to say I'm glad to see you. There are people adept at using Facebook ads, you are a rare breed That in itself makes me want to work with you. Although I do not have the biggest hands on experience with Facebook ads. My partner is a specialist in the area and I would be working on this with her to fill any gaps of my knowledge. So basically what Christopher has said he's he doesn't have much Facebook ads experience but his partner does. He wants to work with his partner to to do my job.
I don't think he might not be necessary but wanted to reply. And it's nice to see that kind of honesty in here because he didn't have to admit that and I did have some communication with Christopher because he did seem really genuine and he just seemed like he was ready to learn and help and that he would 100% over deliver. So I thought that was was really good. does think I want to state that due to the commission. Count p would like to offer a trial. So I wouldn't have paid him unless I was happy with the results.
Now, this is a very good strategy, you just want it for free, essentially. So a client hires you, you can let David deliver because they're basically paying you nothing. So you just do the job while you're over delivering, because they're not paying you. And if you do a good job for them, they're definitely going to hire you. And it's a very good way of building up a relationship with the client. I personally have not done any free work on up work I have in the real world.
But I work with lots of clients, I often pitch free work to get paid work and build up a successful relationship with the client. And that's what Christopher did here. And that was really good. So that's what makes his application different. He's honest, his enthusiasts, he's kind of makes a light hearted joke. And he it doesn't look like it was copy and paste it if it felt like it was genuine and Matt really resonated with me as a client.
So I hope this has been really helpful going through a few applications. I received when I was hiring for a job kind of seeing what was really good, what wasn't so good and what I thought and resonated with myself as a client
