Here we are on day three, and we're going to discuss the vertical framework. Yesterday we had horizontal. Now we have vertical. Let's take an example of vertical frameworks in action. Perhaps you're asked a question along the lines of what is your favorite newspaper? Now, you may not want to discuss newspapers.
So you may zoom up and talk about the press in general. Your answer may go along the track of Well, you know what, I think the press today is biased. And there's so much fake news around that. I don't read any newspapers, I don't read magazines. I don't go on social media. I'm not interested in the press at all.
So now you've gone from newspapers, vertically upwards. Now you could also go vertically downwards into more detail. Someone might say, okay, which is your favorite newspaper? And you may say, Well, I love newspaper in the UK. I love the times. And in particular, there's a columnist who writes a piece every Friday.
And his writing is amazing. Or there's a there's a photographer and her pictures, just stunning. So you've gone from the level of newspaper to the detail within that newspaper. So you've gone down to even more detail. So you've gone vertically. That's the first core framework.
And today's delivery or mindset tip comes from the world of improvisation. And it's to think yes, and yes. And so whatever answer you come up with, take it, agree with it and add to it because In the world of improv, let's say you've got two actors on stage one, say something. And then the other actor says, No, I don't really like that, let's, let's change it. Everything grinds to a halt. Whereas if the second actor had said, Yes, and and then zoomed off in another direction, they've acknowledged positively what the first actor said.
And then added to it in a positive way. We can do the same thing. Yes. And whatever we've just fed. We'll take it, we'll run with it, and we'll add to it. And that stops us from this judgmental, that was no good.
Stop, go back to the beginning. Just think yes. And as you answer your impromptu speech questions. Now, it's on to today's example question and your question. So the example question I'm going to answer in part is Social media, waste of time or huge benefit. So in this particular case, I'm going to be looking for a vertical route that I can take in answering that question.
So I might say, social media, I love it. It's a huge benefit. And in particular, I love Instagram. I am so active on my Instagram page are It's amazing. And so you've gone from social media, down a level to Instagram. And if you know loads about Instagram or you are very active there, that's an area perhaps you could talk about for ages.
And then to summarize, you can come back up and say social media, massive benefit, because Instagram has changed my life. Now, it's time for you to answer a question. Remember? Yes, and don't judge us. And here's your question, swimming or soccer. You have two minutes to answer How did you get over that question?
If you have time, there are two more questions waiting for you. Remember, you have two minutes to answer them. And remember Yes. And don't say no to anything, sees your answer and work with it. Good luck.
