Let's look at how we can improve communication in your organization by starting with what needs to get communicated. There's two different dimensions here. One would be the content related information. And secondly, the process or the process information. Here's what I mean by both. When we talk about content, information and change, my hope is it's becoming clear to you that there is a flow that needs to unfold here.
And there's a body of work around strategy information that needs to be communicated, change related information and transition related information, and they should be communicated in that order. When we think about communicating strategy, what we're doing is ensuring people understand the urgency behind the situation. clear about the direction and providing the focus around the priorities. When we talk about communicating the changes once we get the strategy clear. Talking about those alignment details. We're talking about the details around who and what and when, and where and how we're talking about behaviors and attitudes.
And when you get that clear, we follow that up with information about the transition, what's over now and what isn't. expressing some genuine caring concern, providing all kinds of learning opportunities, and also communicating signs of success. That would be the ideal flow strategy first, then change, then transition. Unfortunately, most organizations tend to start a little late and stop a little soon. There's simply communicating the changes, maybe providing an update or two, and then on to the next change. And they wonder why people get changed out why there's confusion.
So let's think about then avoiding that common habit. And how can you then create flow of information starting with strategy, then change, then transition. Let's talk about process information or process information. Here we're talking about how decisions are being made. Let's not keep that a secret. People need to know where the decisions are being made, who's making them, what happened to their input, and so on.
Let's talk about and make sure everyone understands the makeup of the project teams. We talked about that earlier, when we were talking about effective project teams. People need to know who are on these change teams. When you have delays, explain them. Where can people get the most current information? Some people might want to go online.
Some people might want to go talk to the project leader or someone on the project team. Some people of course want to talk to their boss. So where can people get the most current up to date accurate information about the changes Who is in charge of what? Let's communicate that. And where can people get their questions answered? When they get the information, they still have lots of questions.
Where can they get those questions answered? And of course, all of this information needs to be shared continuously as the situation continues to unfold
