The next part I'm going to talk about is meeting etiquette. If you have a meeting, and this is really important with customers or potential clients, there are things that you need to do to show respect to those around you. First of all, do not have your phone facing up on the desk. What I normally do in these scenarios is put my phone away in my bag and put my bag at the back of the room. This is when I have a customer meeting or I have an interview. I don't put my phone on the desk.
You also need to take notes during meetings, because there'll be lots of follow up actions. I do it the traditional way of writing in a notebook. Some people use a laptop or a notepad or tablet. This is your preference, but I prefer to do it in a notebook. Next, speaking up, speaking of dream meetings, if you have a question, ask it. Make sure speaking clearly, slowly and projecting your voice.
Next, making eye contact. making eye contact with those you're talking to, especially during a presentation or a meeting is very important. It builds a rapport and it builds trust. It shows the person that you're talking to, that you're actively listening to them. And again, it gives them more comfort in dealing with you as a professional. So make and maintain eye contact in whatever setting that you are.
Next, if you have a presentation, I suggest you stand up. If you're in front of an audience, and you have a point to make, I suggest you stand up. It's also a sign of respect to your customers.
