So you've got a definition for what feelings are, let's tackle the next part of this process. Why are people so afraid of feelings? Well, there are a lot of reasons. One is social conditioning. And a lot of what we see on the media tells us what feelings are okay? And what feelings aren't and doesn't show us much about how to regulate the ones we have.
Sometimes we don't have the skills to manage the feelings that we do experience. And sometimes the consequences of what we feel in the past caused us to be afraid of what we might feel in the future. And then there's the fear of losing face or of being laughed at, or of being overwhelmed by what we feel by our reactions to emotions we have me again, yes, when this video ends, the next step in this chapter is to make a list of the feelings that frighten you. And you'll make note of what happened that causes you to be afraid of them. More important, you'll think about how your life might be different if you're more comfortable with those feelings and taking charge of change that you saw before. An athlete of the mind.
