Cupping for shin splints. In this video I'm going to be showing you how to do cupping for the anterior lower leg muscles, specifically targeting shin splints. Make sure that the anterior lower leg is lubricated before cupping. Begin by creating a two by four cupping grid on the shins with too large to medium and too small cups. Specifically, you'll be targeting the anterior tibialis or O'Neill's extensors on the lateral side and the gastroc and soleus on the medial side. Have the client actively stretch by asking them To bring their toes toward the nose and then Alternatively, you can passively dorsiflex the client's foot.
Be prepared for a cup to pop off. Have the client dorsiflex and plantar flex about a dozen times and then have them dorsiflex and hold it for two to three seconds and then plantar flex for two to three seconds. Have them repeat this several times. Now remove the cups. Notice the marks and just fill in the blank more cups, creating another two by four cutting grid. Have your client dorsiflex and plantar flex several more times.
Remove the cups and then cradle the left foot and heel with your left hand. with your right hand suction released the shin as you passively dorsiflex the client's foot and then remove the cup during plantar flexion. change to a smaller size cup as you work more distantly Manually massage proximal to distal, using a mile faster spreading movement. Finish with after the garage up the shin contouring around the knee. Test the client's range of motion. Have them dorsi flex and plantar flex.
Ask the client how they feel bringing their attention to how much freer their foot feels.
