This is Roscommon raw again with lesson number 15. All about college desks. In this lesson we will learn more about the PSAT NMS Qt s AP and the AC T. If you look at the NEC table, the next most important factor is a student's performance on standardized tests. The LSAT is the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The preliminary LSAT is also called the PSAT. The AC T is the American College a test.

For over 40 years standardized testing has proven to be a good unit. Form measures to estimate student's college readiness. These tests measure student's abilities in reading, writing and math. Technically, there is nothing students ought to prepare for. It is what they already know. These basic skills of reading, writing and math are taught throughout a student's career and are considered crucial for college readiness.

So all these tests measure is the simple question. How competent in basic reading, writing and math is the student to be successful in college? most colleges require you to submit LSAT or AC t scores. In 2017. Over 3 million college students took the PSAT or the AC But many more students apply to college each year. There are over 700 colleges which do not require any LSAT or a CT scores.

Community Colleges generally do not need test scores. The PSAT although we included the PSAT as an important test for college admissions, technically, colleges do not look at PSAT scores to evaluate a student's credentials. It is high schools which require the PSAT. The PSAT helps students prepare for the LSAT. But more importantly, the PSAT 11 taken in the 11th grade, serves as the National Merit Scholarship qualifying test. Ms. QD scores are badges of honor for school districts.

Strong NMS Qd scores showcase students and the district in good light. Semi finalists earn financial awards and scholarships based on merit from hundreds of private companies nationwide. Remember that colleges do not look at your PSAT 11 NMS Qd score for college admissions, but if you do well, you can brag about it on your application, colleges will have a hard time turning away NMS Qt winners. The PSAT and Ms. Qt is extremely competitive. The maximum PSAT score is 1527 60 in reading, writing, and language, and 760 in math, the NMS Qd calculation is based on what is called The selection index score, which is simply twice the reading score, plus the math score whole divided by 10. So if a student scored a 700 in reading a 710 in math, the si es would be a 211.

Approximately one and a half million juniors take the PSAT or an mstp exam each year. Of these 34,000 students are recognized as commended students. And 16,000 recognized as semi finalists. Almost 95% of semi finalists eventually are named finalists, and about half of the finalists will be awarded scholarships from an MSc The PSAT NMS Qd cut offs for semi finalists have very high. Look at this chart. This shows qualifying scores by state and you will see that states like California and Texas have extremely high cut offs.

Next, the SAP and ACP so which does should you take the sad or the ACP. Since the 2016 LSAT redesign, the two tests are almost identical. Both tests are accepted at all colleges and universities and one is not preferred over another. more students take the ACD than the LSAT but the difference is insignificant. It therefore does not matter which test you take. Here are the test taker numbers.

72 Million for the a CT and 1.8 million for the SH T. In general, if you're stronger in science and quicker and math, you're likely to do better on the a CT. If you're more a reader of books and prose, you're likely to do better than the sad because the sad has vocabulary more than a CT. If you want to apply to the top schools, it is better to submit both tests. This is because the tests although similar in design, test different abilities. Also, if you want to apply to the top schools, you should take the sap writing test. Although this is optional, many top colleges require you to submit writing scores.

How do you prepare for these tests? There is an entire cottage industry dedicated to helping you scored better on the SAT or a CT. But you will be wise not just spend money on such companies. Both the SAP and ACD offer you outstanding online practice content plus official full length practice tests for free for the sad would go to the Khan Academy for official SAP practice. And you can even sign up for the free official daily practice question from the sad for the ACP, you can practice for free with the ACD Academy. So when you take these tests here as a timeline, you would prepare for the PSAT in the summer after your 10th grade.

You will take the PSAT and Ms. Qt 11 in October of your 11th grade It is wise to take the psats for the first time within a few weeks of your PSAT. This way you're fresh coming off the test. And it is a good idea to repeat your LSAT in March when you're not quite that busy. Finally, if you must take the LSAT, a third time or the a CT, you can take it in September of your 12th grade. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you
