The first thing we have to do is find a reason why, why are we improving our culture? What is the high level business objective we're trying to reach? by tying our project to high level business objectives, we ensure organizational buy in. So what is the business mission stage? What are the business drivers and know what the business drivers are we need to understand where our business is. And we're going to use a manufacturing business as our example business in this course.
But let's define our business stage. Are we at business launch? Is this a brand new business? Have we been around a little while and we've found a particular sector we want to reposition into We found a new niche. So we have to change the direction of our business a little bit. Are we increasing market share?
Are we looking to take more of the available market and increase how much product or services we deliver to that market? Are we looking to increase profitability? Increasing profitability might be driven by improving processes and reducing waste? Are we in the replication diversification state? So maybe we've got a successful local business and we want to open that business up in a new city. Maybe we're trying to create our exit strategy.
Maybe we want to actually maybe sell the business or sell the rights to the business model we've generated, that we might become a PLC or we might franchise the business, we might even just sell the business directly. But when we understand what stage our business Since then we can understand what business drivers are. Now we can clearly define what our business level objectives should be. So in this demonstration, we've chosen the business stage of increasing profitability. So the first thing we're going to have to do is we will have to start by brainstorming. We're going to have to ask ourselves some questions, what activity could we do?
Could we invest in automation equipment, to speed up our processes, maybe we can acquire competitors, who have got technology or processes and systems that we would like to acquire. Maybe we could improve our marketing reach and focus to increase our profitability. Maybe we could downsize our labor force. Maybe we could change our internal culture. Let's look at choosing air activity. We could change your internal culture from firefighting to one of continuous improvement.
So it might be that our organization deals with problems as they happen. And we're not proactive about developing systems and processes that stop those problems developing in the first place. We could use a grid analysis for choosing this option from the others to see which is most beneficial. And we're going to show you a grid analysis chart later in this course.
