Welcome. In this video, we'll first make sure you have the correct iOS system 12 or higher. And then we're going to install the app called shortcuts, because that's what we'll be working with a lot in this course. So let's get started. Okay, let's check to make sure your system is up to date, go into settings, and then general. And then software update.
And then here it says 12 to make sure it says 12 or higher, if not, then install the updates. Now let's install the app. We go to the App Store. And so we're going to click on the A here and do a search for shortcuts and hit return. And here's the shortcut app. So I've already downloaded mine, so it's downloading so what you may have to do is enter your password or fingerprint.
And so then it downloads and then you open it. So this says Welcome to short cuts, take the shortest path, combined a series of steps into a single shortcut to automate what you do with your apps. So what this means is, instead of saying Siri, could you do this? Could you do this? Could you do this, you're going to put it all in one little thing, and Siri is going to just ruin go right through it. So she's gonna automate everything for you.
And I'll show you that in a little bit. It's so cool. The next one is shortcuts widget. Access shortcuts even faster through the shortcuts widget. Now see these little square things. Those are called widgets.
I'll show you in another video how we're going to put shortcuts so you can get them get to them very fast. The next one is just ask Siri. add any shortcut to Siri by recording a personalized voice phrase. So let's say for an example you have a nighttime routine where you tell Siri, you want to turn off the Wi Fi you want to set an alarm, you want to dim the screen and so on. Little nighttime routine. So instead of telling her all those things, you put them all in one shortcut, then you pick a word or phrase to assign to the all those commands.
Like in this case, it could be nighttime, or nighty night, good night, whatever it is. And then Siri knows when you save that word or phrase to do those commands. So let's get started. Now when you start, you're going to see this Open Library here with nothing there. And at the bottom, left corner is library and that's your library button. So we haven't created any shortcuts so it's empty.
But when we go to the bottom right, right here, that's the gallery. And if you look here, you can scroll up, you can scroll down, you can scroll side side. And these are all the shortcuts we're going to be working with. So your home play for this video is to make sure you have iOS 12 or higher and install shortcuts.
