Greetings. I'm Professor Kay and in this short video presentation, we're going to see how we go about configuring and managing our Windows Update settings and options. So I'm currently logged on to my DC one running Windows Server 2019. And to begin this process, we're just going to click on Start button. And from here we're going to go to Settings. Now in the past, you've already gone through the control panel to get to the Windows Update option.
But now with Windows Server 2019, you'll be using the settings. Once you're up inside of the settings just go on over to update and security. And you can see I have a number of updates that are either ready to install or they have already installed. Of course, it's always best to do these updates during non business hours so you can scroll to the bottom and you can manage when Windows updates will occur just by clicking on change active hours. So we can go ahead and change these active hours for Windows updates. pull this down.
And we're going to select pm and we'll select, it can start at 8pm. And it'll run until, let's say 12 midnight, and we can then save those new settings. If you would like to see what updates have been installed, you can view your update history. And we only have this one so far. That's not unusual because this is a new and a clean install. To get back, we're just going to use that back arrow.
Scroll down here and you can go into the Advanced Options. And here you can configure what type of updates you want to have such as give me updates for other Microsoft products. When I update windows, you can leave that off, automatically download updates even over metered connections. Now charges may apply. So use these wisely. Update notifications show a notification when your PC requires a restart.
To finish updating that's always a good thing and Pause update. Now if you want to pause updates, you can do so for up to 30 days. Now, if we click on delivery optimization, here's where you can choose to get your updates either from another PC, or from some other location. So if you want PCs on your local network, to be able to give you those updates, you can do that PCs on my local network and PCs on the internet. Those are other options that you have as well. And under delivery optimization, we also have more advanced options.
So you can click on this. And here you can control the bandwidth usage for updating your server. If you have issues with a limited amount of bandwidth is maybe something that you want to tweak, but normally we would just leave it at the defaults. click on the back button one more time. And we can look at the Activity Monitor. Here you can get some statistics about what happened on what date when The download occurred.
